Sepsis is a life-threatening illness with a challenging diagnosis. Rapid detection is the key to successful treatment of sepsis. To investigate diagnostic value, the plasma protein profiles of inflammatory biomarkers, cytokines, and endothelial functional markers were compared between healthy controls, SIRS, and septic patients. ⋯ Most patients have the higher level of several cytokines and developed endothelial cell injury in the initial phase of sepsis, Urokinase, ICAM-1, and VEGFR2 may be useful to evaluate severity and prognosis of sepsis patients.

Serum VEGF-D level is correlated with renal dysfunction and proteinuria in patients with diabetic chronic kidney disease.
Biomarkers associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) may play a crucial role in the early diagnosis of diabetic kidney disease. However, there have been few reports published on serum vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF)-D in patients with diabetic CKD. We divided patients with diabetic CKD into two groups: CKD 3-4 and CKD 5. ⋯ Circulating VEGF-D was positively correlated with blood growth/differentiation factor-15, endostatin, and chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 16 levels. Serum VEGF-D levels were correlated with renal dysfunction, albuminuria, and proteinuria in patients with diabetic kidney disease. Elucidation of the role of VEGF-D as a biomarker requires further study.

Effect of intrarenal renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system on renal function in patients after cardiac surgery.
The aim of the study was to investigate the influence of intrarenal RAS on the decrease of renal function in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. This observational study investigated the activation of intrarenal RAS in 24 patients with AKI after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. The activation of intrarenal RAS was determined by urinary angiotensinogen (uAGT), which was measured at 12 hours before surgery, 0 and12 hours after surgery. ⋯ There was a positive correlation between the activation of RAS at 0 hour after surgery and the decrease of renal function at 48 hours after surgery (r = 0.654, P = .001). These findings suggest that uAGT might be a suitable biomarker for prediction of the occurrence and severity of AKI after cardiac surgery. Inhibition of intrarenal RAS activation might be one the path of future treatment for this type of disease.

The constitutive centromere associated network (CCAN) complex played a critical role in connecting the centromere with the mitotic spindle during mitosis and meiosis. Many studies have indicated that CCAN is related to the tumorigenesis and cancer development. Nonetheless, the overview of CCAN gene family in pan-cancer remain incompletely understood. ⋯ This multidimensional study provides a valuable resource to assist mechanism research and clinical utility about CCAN.

Aberrant expression of adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette subfamily C (ABCC), one of the largest superfamilies and transporter gene families of membrane proteins, is associated with various tumors. However, its relationship with liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) remains unclear. We used the Oncomine, UALCAN, Human Protein Atlas, GeneMANIA, GO, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), TIMER, and Kaplan-Meier Plotter databases. ⋯ None showed prognostic significance for microvascular invasion (P < .05). We identified ABCC1/2/3/4/5/6/9/10/11 as potential diagnostic markers, and ABCC1/4/5/6/7/8/9/12/13 as prognostic markers, of LIHC. Our future work will promote the use of ABCCs in the diagnosis and treatment of LIHC.
