Case Reports
Asymptomatic gastric tuberculosis in the gastric body mimicking an isolated microscopic erosion: A rare case report.
Gastric tuberculosis is rarely seen in clinical practice, which occurs mostly secondary to lung tuberculosis, intestinal tuberculosis, and other common tuberculosis. Gastric tuberculosis rarely presents as a single microscopic superficial erosion. We recently diagnosed such a case, hence reporting it herein. ⋯ Gastroscopy should be performed to look for gastric tuberculosis if the patient presents primary tuberculosis in other organs/tissues such as cervical lymph nodes. If any small erosion is found, a biopsy is justified for checking the possibility of gastric tuberculosis.

This study compared survival outcomes for patients with stage IB1 to IIA2 (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage 2009) cervical cancer who underwent open radical hysterectomy (ORH) versus those who underwent minimally invasive radical hysterectomy (MIRH) using vaginal colpotomy (VC). Data for 550 patients who were diagnosed with cervical cancer at our institution during the period August 2005 to September 2018 was retrospectively reviewed. Of these, 116 patients who underwent radical hysterectomy (RH) were selected after applying the exclusion criteria. ⋯ In univariate analysis, lympho-vascular space invasion was the only clinicopathological feature associated with decreased PFS. No other clinicopathological factors was significantly associated with PFS or OS in univariate and multivariate analyses. Despite a higher incidence of unfavorable prognostic factors in ORH patients, their survival outcomes were not different to those of MIRH patients with VC.

The sensitivity and specificity of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for esophageal cancer are variable. The aim of the present study was to determine the accuracy of EUS for the T staging of esophageal cancer and to explore the factors that affect the accuracy. This was a retrospective study of patients with esophageal cancer who underwent EUS between January 2018 and September 2019 at the author's hospital. ⋯ The multivariable analysis revealed that highly differentiated tumors (odds ratio = 9.167, P = .041) and pT stage ≥T2 (odds ratio = 2.932, P = .004) were independent factors of accurate uT stage. The staging of esophageal cancer using EUS has low sensitivity but high specificity. Highly differentiated tumors and pT stage ≥2 tumors were associated with the accuracy of uT staging.

This study analyzed the changes in the number of outpatients and disease presentation during the entirety of 2020, the period of COVID-19 pandemic. The average annual number of outpatient visits between 2017 and 2019 (before COVID-19) and the total number of outpatient visits in 2020 (COVID-19 period) were compared. Diagnostic codes were identified during 2 periods to analyze changes in the number of outpatient visits according to disease and month. ⋯ In addition, the number of outpatient visits due to viral diseases continued to decline, while the incidence of bacterial diseases increased rapidly in the second half of the year. This study confirmed that the number of outpatient visits due to bacterial or viral infections decreased throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Therefore, expanding public health and telemedicine services is necessary to prevent secondary health problems caused by essential medical use restrictions.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common cancers with high incidence and mortality worldwide. Recently, RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) have drawn more and more attention for its role in cancer pathophysiology. However, the function and clinical implication of RBPs in GC have not been fully elucidated. ⋯ Similar results were obtained from another independent set GSE62254, confirming the robustness of signature. Besides, the genetic variation and immune heterogeneity differences were identified between the high-risk and low-risk groups by bioinformatics methods. These findings would provide evidence of the effect of RBPs and offer a novel potential biomarker in prognostic prediction and clinical decision for GC.
