To allow early diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression, there is a need for biomarkers in mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is emerging protein biomarkers in neurodegenerative diseases and is of possible use in MCI. We aimed to assess the utility of NfL in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) as a biomarker in patients with MCI. ⋯ NfL expression level in CSF was increased in MCI individuals, which indicated that NfL in CSF could be a potential biomarker of MCI.

Meta Analysis
Upregulated miR-328-3p and its high risk in atrial fibrillation: A systematic review and meta-analysis with meta-regression.
Several studies have shown miR-328-3p increased in atrial fibrillation (AF), but some researches indicated no difference or even decreased. This inconsistent result confuses researchers, and it is urgent to know the truth. This study is to assess the association between miR-328-3p levels in plasma/atrial tissue and patients with AF. ⋯ High levels of miR-328-3p are significantly associated with an increased risk of AF. It implies that miR-328-3p played an important role in diagnosis and may serve as a potential momentous, and useful biomarker to identify AF.

Review Case Reports
ANCA-associated vasculitis in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: A case report and brief review of the literature.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive disease with poor prognosis. Patients with IPF represent a heterogeneous population with several described clinical phenotypes. More recently, the development of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis in IPF patients, with an incidence higher than that in the general population, has drawn attention. ⋯ The association between IPF and ANCA-associated vasculitis may represent a distinct clinical phenotype. Autoimmune testing for ANCAs should be considered part of the diagnostic work-up and follow-up of patients with IPF because of the clinical and therapeutic implications of developing vasculitis in an already vulnerable patient.

Review Case Reports
Severe dysplasminogenemia due to homozygous PLG Ala620Thr variant in a Korean woman without a history of venous thromboembolism: A case report and literature review.
Plasminogen plays an important role in fibrinolysis and is encoded by the PLG gene. The missense variant PLG Ala620Thr is the major cause of dysplasminogenemia in East Asian countries, including Korea. Although dysplasminogenemia was first reported in a Japanese patient with recurrent venous thromboembolism (VTE), subsequent studies have not demonstrated any clear association between the PLG Ala620Thr variant and the risk of VTE. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a homozygous PLG Ala620Thr variant case from Korea. ⋯ We believe that this clinically silent homozygous case supports the previous findings that isolated PLG Ala620Thr variant does not confer a significant risk of VTE.

Diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS) is the main subtypes of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). In recent years, more than half of IBS patients have received complementary and alternative medicine. Traditional Chinese herbal formula is widely used in Asia, and clinical studies have also found that Chinese herbal formula could significantly improve abdominal pain and diarrhea. We plan to carry out a randomized, controlled, double blind, clinical studies to observe the clinical efficacy of Qinghua Zhixie decoction in the treatment of D-IBS. ⋯ The findings of the study will identify the safety and efficacy of Qinghua Zhixie decoction in the treatment of D-IBS.
