Review Case Reports
Extensive skull ossification after decompressive craniectomy in an elderly patient: A case report and literature review.
After severe traumatic brain injury, patients often present with signs of increased intracranial hypertension and partially require decompressive craniectomies. Artificial materials are usually required to repair skull defects and spontaneous skull ossification is rarely observed in adults. ⋯ We collected other 11 similar cases of spontaneous human skull regeneration in a literature search to analyze the possible factors impacting skull regeneration. The analysis of the cases indicated that maintaining the integrity of the periosteum, dura, and blood vessels during craniotomy may play an important role in skull regeneration. Skull regeneration predominantly occurs in young patients with rapid growth and development; therefore, an appropriate postponement of the cranioplasty time under close monitoring could be considered for young patients with skull defects.

Over the past few decades, people with epilepsy were advised not to engage in sports based on the fear that sporting activity may cause injuries, potentially induce seizures, and have a negative effect on disease course. However, in recent years, numerous studies have indicated a positive role of physical exercise in reducing the frequency of seizures and improving health condition of patients with epilepsy. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of different physical exercise programs on the symptomatology and health condition of individuals with epilepsy and provide guidance for selecting the optimal modality of physical exercise for patients with epilepsy via a meta-analysis of available literature. ⋯ Aerobic exercise and resistance exercises both had a positive effect on epilepsy patients. Persons with epilepsy should be encouraged to participate in sports activities.INPLASY registration number: INPLASY202220070.

The clinical use of the cardiac troponin T (cTnT) assay was limited to the adult population in the diagnosis and prognosis of myocardial injury. However, emerging studies indicated its significant value in the assessment of pediatric cardiology, and it has been routinely measured in most hospitals. Our study investigated the normative values of cTnT in Chinese children and reported the age-specific 99th percentile cut-off for them. ⋯ For subjects aged from 1 to 18years, boys had slightly higher cTnT levels than girls (P = .003), while our assay could not measure low cTnT concentrations (≥the limit of detection) in 50% girls. Our study provided age-specific URLs of cTnT for Chinese children, with the 5th generation cTnT assay from Roche Diagnostics. It had significant clinical implications in the interpretation and use of test results for pediatric cardiology.

Can adjuvant chemotherapy improve the prognosis of adult ovarian granulosa cell tumors?: A narrative review.
Adult granulosa cell tumors (aGCTs) are rare ovarian neoplasms with a relatively favorable prognosis. They follow an indolent course, characterized by a prolonged natural history and a tendency to late recurrences, Around a quarter of patients develop recurrence and More than 70% of women with recurrence die from their disease, The percentage of patients received chemotherapy increases over time, whether adjuvant chemotherapy improve the prognosis of aGCTs is equivocal? The purpose of this review is to summarize the previously published evidence to evaluate whether adjuvant chemotherapy improve the prognosis of aGCTs to provide guidance for clinical practice. EMBASE, PubMed, Web of Science, WanFang Data and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure are searched up to December 2020, used the search strategy of ovar* and granulosa cell* and (tumor* or tumour* or malignan* or cancer* or carcinom* or neoplasm*) and chemotherapy. ⋯ The percentage of patients received chemotherapy increases over time, but the benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy is lack of high-grade evidence of prospective study, based on the current retrospective studies, we still do not have the evidence to confirm the survival benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy in early stage, advanced stage or recurrent aGCT with no residual tumor, but for inoperable disseminated disease or disease with suboptimal cytoreduction, adjuvant chemotherapy maybe an Optable options. Multinational prospective randomised controlled trials are urgently needed to validate the role of adjuvant chemotherapy. Further research on molecular mechanisms and developing novel targeted medicines may improve the survival of aGCTs.

Infants are often hospitalized because of lower respiratory tract infections, and overuse of antibiotics to treat such infections has led to severe problems. Herbal medicines may be more effective and safer than antibiotics. Mahaenggamseok-tang is a common herbal medicine in Asia, but the evidence for its effectiveness in lower respiratory tract infection treatment is insufficient. This review assesses the efficacy of Mahaenggamseok-tang in treating lower respiratory tract infections. ⋯ Mahaenggamseok-tang plus Western medicine is more effective and safer than Western medicine alone for treating lower respiratory tract infections. However, the included randomized controlled trials were not randomized well; therefore, better randomized randomized controlled trials are needed to make significant recommendations.PROSPERO registration number: CRD42020165698.
