Adenocarcinoma is a non-small-cell lung cancer that is common cancer in both genders, and has poor clinical outcomes. We aimed to evaluate the role of cytoskeleton-associated protein 2 (CKAP2), its prognostic significance, and the relationship between CKAP2 expression and lung adenocarcinoma driver genes. ⋯ High expression of CKAP2 may serve as a marker of poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma.

The molecular basis of the evaluation of children suspected of having disorders of surfactant proteins is still under discussion. In this study, we aimed to describe the morphological characteristics and to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of surfactant proteins (surfactant protein A [SPA], surfactant protein B, and pro-surfactant protein C) in the preterm twins that deceased due to unexplained respiratory distress syndrome (n = 12). ⋯ The fetuses and neonates of the same gestational age showed differences among surfactant proteins regarding the immunostaining expression. Our data evidence a marked interindividual variability in the expression of all 3 surfactant proteins among the cases analyzed (n = 12), suggesting the intervention of some individual and epigenetic factors during gestation that might influence surfactant protein production and consequently survival rate.

Individuals on immunosuppressive therapies experience greater morbidity and mortality due to vaccine-preventable illnesses, but there are low rates of adherence to immunization guidelines within this population. ⋯ The intervention successfully addressed vaccine hesitancy and improved influenza immunization rates in an immunosuppressed population receiving care from a specialty clinic. Implementing a similar model across specialty clinics may improve vaccination rates for influenza, coronavirus disease 2019, and other vaccine-preventable illnesses in other populations.

Globally, 298,000 women die due to pregnancy related causes and half of this occurs in Africa. In Uganda, maternal mortality has marginally reduced from 526 to 336 per 100,000 live births between 2001 and 2016. Health facility delivery is an important factor in improving maternal and neonatal outcomes. ⋯ In contrast, care-seeking early during the onset of labor pains attracted ridicule and was considered frivolous. In this context, perceived discrimination, conflicting gender roles, and societal rewards for silent endurance of labor pains intersect to create a unique state of vulnerability, causing a barrier to access to maternal and newborn care among immigrant women. We recommend platforms to demystify harmful cultural norms and training of health workers on respectful treatment based on the 12 steps to safe and respectful mother baby-family care.

Glioma represents the most prevalent malignant primary brain cancer, and its treatment remains a tremendous challenge. Novel and efficient molecular targets are therefore required for improving diagnosis, survival prediction, and treatment outcomes. Additionally, some studies have shown that immunity is highly associated with glioma progression. ⋯ Gene set enrichment analysis revealed that several immune-related pathways were tightly linked to high ELK3 expression. gene set variation analysis and correlograms demonstrated that ELK3 was robustly associated with inflammatory and immune responses. Correlation analyses indicated that ELK3 was positively associated with infiltrating immune cells and synergistic with several immune checkpoints. ELK3 may serve as a novel marker of poor prognosis and a potential immunotherapeutic target in glioma.
