This study aimed to investigate the current status and influencing factors of kinesiophobia in patients after insertion of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC). A total of 240 patients with PICC were included. Their postinsertion status and influencing factors were investigated using the general information questionnaire, Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK), Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire, Numerical Rating Scale, and Self-rating Anxiety Scale. ⋯ The total variation in the TSK score was 71.8%. The incidence of kinesiophobia was relatively high after PICC insertion. The medical staff needs to undertake targeted intervention measures to help minimize kinesiophobia after PICC insertion, allowing patients to perform scientifically correct functional exercises and attain physical recovery.

Central nervous system infections (CNSIs) are one of the most serious complications after neurosurgery, especially carbapenem-resistant bacterial meningitis. Owing to the poor blood-brain barrier permeability of most antibiotics, the treatment of CNSIs by intraventricular (IVT) administration is becoming a hot topic in clinical research. Currently, the treatment of CNSIs caused by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae is mainly based on intraventricular injection of an antibiotic combined with one or more other systemic intravenous (IV) antibiotics, whereas there are few case reports of intraventricular injection of 2 antibiotics. ⋯ A series of in vitro and in vivo synergy tests of carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae showed that tigecycline combined with aminoglycosides had good synergistic effects and effectively suppressed bacterial resistance selection. Intravenous plus intraventricular tigecycline-amikacin seems to be a safe and effective treatment option for carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae CNSIs.

We performed a novel hydroxyapatite (HA) prosthesis implantation method in which an HA implant was implanted into the scleral shell with an autogenous scleral cap. Twenty-six patients who had undergone the novel HA prosthesis implantation method and 32 patients who had undergone traditional HA prosthesis implantation were retrospectively reviewed. The postoperative activity of the artificial eye was measured by the Hirschberg test combined with arc perimetry. ⋯ Six months after implantation, the VE/VHA values of the study and control groups were 0.9686 and 0.5934, respectively, and there was a statistically significant difference (W = 549.0, P = .000). Within 2 years of postoperative follow-up, there were no serious complications in the study group. In the study group, in which the hydroxyapatite implant was implanted into a preserved scleral shell with unaltered muscles and covered with an autogenous scleral cap, postoperative activity and the fibrovascularization of the HA implant were significantly increased, and postoperative pain and discomfort were significantly reduced.

High-dose chemotherapy combined with autologous stem cell rescue (HDCT + ASCR) has been used to treat newly diagnosed medulloblastoma, but there was no high-level evidence to support its efficacy. ⋯ HDCT + ASCR can prolong 3-year PFS significantly, and prolong 5-y PFS significantly in the standard risk group, but increase gastrointestinal toxicity significantly for newly diagnosed medulloblastoma.

The number of mental disorders has been increasing but has yet to receive sufficient attention. In particular, healthcare students and professionals tend to have high stress burden. Finding the root cause of psychological distress is important to formulate a method for early detection and prevention. ⋯ The sociodemographic factors also showed non significance, except for the source of tuition fee among women students (P = .049). Psychological distress is not affected by genotypic and sociodemographic factors. Further confirmatory research with larger and broader populations is required.
