Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common chronic autoimmune disease characterized by synovial inflammation and progressive joint destruction. Eucommia ulmoides (EU) is a kidney-tonifying Chinese medicine that has been applied to treat RA for decides. The present study aims to explore pharmacological mechanisms of EU against RA using network pharmacology approach. ⋯ GO enrichment analysis indicated that EU exerted antiRA effects depending on regulating multiple biological processes including inflammatory response, oxidative stress, cell apoptosis and matrix catabolism. Several key pathways such as TNF pathway, IL-17 pathway, T cell receptor pathway, NOD-like receptor pathway and Toll-like receptor pathway, were involved in the above biological processes. Network pharmacology revealed that EU exerts therapeutic effects on RA through multi-ingredients, multi-targets and multi-pathways, which provides basis for its clinical application and promising directions for subsequent research.

Recent studies have shown that low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is effective for the early detection of lung cancer. However, the utility of chest radiography (CR) and LDCT for other thoracic diseases has not been as well investigated as it has been for lung cancer. This study aimed to clarify the usefulness of the veridical method in the screening of various thoracic diseases. ⋯ These results revealed that LDCT allowed early detection of thoracic tumors and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, especially in individuals over the age of 50 years. CR is still a useful imaging modality for other thoracic diseases, especially in individuals under the age of 49 years.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) was found to be more common in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related cirrhotic males. However, the association between DM, or other extrahepatic manifestations (EHMs), and liver cirrhosis is still undetermined. We used a large-scale long-term study to analyze the cirrhosis risk of treatment-naïve HCV patients with EHMs as compared to those without. ⋯ Cumulative incidence (P < .001) of liver cirrhosis by pairwise comparisons of multiple high-cirrhosis-risk EHMs, and that of lichen planus was the highest. Our study provided direct estimates of specific HCV-associated EHM time trends of cirrhosis risk, with an upward trend in incidence. Lichen planus was at the top of the list of single-EHM comparisons, and the maximum combination of certain EHMs was the greatest risk factor across a different array of multi-EHM comparisons for liver cirrhosis development.

Anlotinib is an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptor, and has been approved for the treatment of patients with advanced nonsmall cell lung cancer who had received at least 2 previous chemotherapy and epidermal growth factor receptor/anaplastic lymphoma kinase targeted therapy regimens. Pneumothorax is a rare adverse reaction of this drug. Here, we present a case of pneumothorax following anlotinib treatment in a patient with lung cancer. ⋯ Pneumothorax may occur when VEGF is inhibited, which can promote the proliferation and repair of alveolar wall substances, leading to alveolar rupture. With respect to pneumothorax, it is necessary to be aware of the risk of pulmonary bullous rupture during antitumor treatment with small-molecule tyrosine kinase drugs.

Case report of transient corneal edema after immunization with adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccine.
To report a case of bilateral transient corneal edema presumably associated with adenovirus-vectored coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination that resolved with eye drops treatment. ⋯ This case suggests that transient corneal edema can develop following adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccination. Prompt ophthalmologic evaluation and treatment may improve the corneal edema.
