This study aimed to investigate the relationship between cervical region subcutaneous fat tissue thickness and the presence and level of cervical intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). ⋯ An increase in the cervical fat tissue thickness is a predisposing factor for the development of degeneration of the intervertebral disc. There is a close relationship between subcutaneous fat tissue thickness and the degree of degeneration.

Hepatitis C is a serious infectious disease caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). HCV genotypes (GT) and subtypes are closely related to geographical distribution. Studies on the distribution of HCV genotypes can help to understand the regional epidemiology and genotype distribution and provide benefits in the treatment for hepatitis C. ⋯ However, the viral load of GT 1b was significantly higher than that of GT 2a (F = 3.51, P = .008). The viral load of GT 1b among ethnic Mongolians was significantly higher than that among Han patients (t = 2.28, P = .044). The present study's findings can serve as a basis for developing a personalized treatment for hepatitis C among patients in Inner Mongolia.

Individuals living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) who experience virological failure (VF) after combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) initiation may have had low-frequency drug resistance mutations (DRMs) at cART initiation. There are no data on low-frequency DRMs among cART-naïve HIV-positive individuals in Botswana. ⋯ Next-generation sequencing was able to detect low-frequency DRMs in this cohort in Botswana, but these DRMs did not contribute significantly to VF.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease caused by many factors. Astragali Radix (Huangqi), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), is widely used to treat OA. Although it can inhibit the progression of OA, its pharmacological mechanism is unclear. ⋯ Moreover, the molecular docking results indicated that quercetin and kaempferol exhibited the good binding capacity to transcription factor JUN, tumor necrosis factor, and protein kinase B. In summary, we investigated the therapeutic effects of Huangqi from a systemic perspective. These key targets and pathways provide promising directions for future studies to reveal the exact regulating mechanism of Huangqi against OA.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most common primary mesenchymal tumors in gastrointestinal tract. Synchronous occurrence of GIST and tumors in other organs is rare. We first report an exceedingly rare case of synchronous occurrence of gastric GIST, pancreatic intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. ⋯ As yet, no cases simultaneously with gastric GIST, pancreatic IPMN and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma have been described in literatures. This report increases the knowledge to avoid misdiagnosis and delayed therapy for coexistence of the described 3 types of neoplasm.
