Case Reports
PD-1, PD-L1, NY-ESO-1, and MAGE-A4 expression in cutaneous angiosarcoma: A case report.
The genomic alteration of cutaneous angiosarcoma (cAS) is complex. Treatment efficacy of immunotherapy for cAS remains controversial and prognosis remains poor. Herein, we report a case of cAS with programmed cell death 1, programmed cell death ligand-1, New York esophageal squamous cell carcinoma-1, and melanoma-associated antigen 4. ⋯ Histopathology of the excised specimen was positive for programmed cell death 1, programmed cell death ligand-1, New York esophageal squamous cell carcinoma-1, and melanoma-associated antigen 4; their expression may be a therapeutic target for cAS. Combining immunotherapy with surgical treatment may be effective for cAS.

As coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is asserting itself as a health crisis, it is necessary to assess the knowledge and perceptions of people about the disease. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge of the general population about COVID-19 and how the media influence this knowledge. ⋯ Over 75% have obtained a high degree of knowledge regarding signs, symptoms, and transmission, 95% stated to check the veracity of the information received, and also showed that the total knowledge about COVID-19 was associated with the level of instruction, with the perception of the quality of information disseminated by the media, and with the risk perception. Despite the high level of knowledge of participants, the results pointed to the need to reinforce information for individuals with less education and the importance of avoiding denialism that reduces the risk perception about COVID-19.

Integrative traditional Korean medicine (TKM) treatment including herbal medicine and acupuncture has been used frequently by parents in South Korea for the treatment of children with idiopathic short stature (ISS). We aimed to report the TKM treatments currently being used for children with ISS and explore their therapeutic effects. The medical records of children who met the criteria for ISS and who had been treated with TKM for the management of ISS were retrospectively reviewed. ⋯ After treatment with TKM, the height percentile and standard deviation scores increased in both girls and boys (P < .001 and P < .01, respectively). Additionally, the predicted adult height, estimated based on bone age, increased in girls (P < .05). This study provided preliminary data for future research in TKM use in children with ISS.

DNA methylation makes up a main part of the molecular mechanism of cancer evolution and has shown promising results in the prognosis of renal cell cancer (RCC). In this study, we investigated the possible association of promoter methylation of PCDH17, NEFH, RASSF1A, and FHIT, genes with the prognosis of nonmetastatic RCC patients. Cancerous and normal adjacent tissues from surgical specimens of 41 patients with long follow-up were treated for DNA isolation and bisulfite conversion. ⋯ Kaplan-Meier curves for hypermethylation in cancer tissues demonstrated different clinical courses for PCDH17 (P = .017), NEFH (P = .023) regarding DSS, and PCDH17 (P = .001) regarding DFS. Our study not only highlights the prognostic value of promoter methylation of PCDH17 and NEFH in cancer tissues but also is the first report of the prognostic value of methylation alterations in normal tissues. Our findings are the first report of the prognostic value of methylation alterations in normal tissues, which can contribute to improved assessment of recurrence risk.

This study aimed to assess the surface electromyogram (sEMG) signal characteristics of the muscle around the hip joint after Pemberton osteotomy in children with unilateral developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). A total of 21 children with unilateral DDH who had received Pemberton osteotomy were selected as the DDH group, and 21 healthy children of the same age were selected as the control group. The children in both groups were tested using sEMG, the Root mean square (RMS) values of the tensor fascia lata, rectus femurs, and medial head of the hamstring and gluteus maximum on both sides in standing and walking status were recorded. ⋯ The RMS value of the affected gluteus maximum muscle in the DDH group was significantly larger while standing (P < 0.05), the RMS value of bilateral tensor fascia lata muscle was significantly larger while walking (P < 0.05), and the RMS value of the affected hamstring muscle medial head was significantly less in the DDH group compared with the control group (P < 0.05). An asymmetry and compensatory increase in the sEMG activity of the muscles around the hip joint when standing and walking was noted in children with unilateral DDH who underwent Pemberton osteotomy combined with a femoral osteotomy. The rehabilitation training of the muscles around the hip joint after unilateral DDH should be strengthened.
