Migration of bladder cancer (BC) cells poses a substantial threat to human health. It is critical to elucidate the mechanism of BC invasion and progression for surgical treatment and the prognosis of patients. Decorin is of interest as an anticancer treatment that can play a vital role in regulating tumorigenesis. ⋯ In addition, decorin blocked the G1/S phase by upregulating p21 protein and inhibiting the expression of TGF-β1 and MMP2, promoting the occurrence of apoptosis and inhibiting the proliferation of human BC T24 cells. Moreover, decorin increased the adhesion of tumor cells in vitro, and effectively inhibited cell metastasis. Decorin regulated the expression of TGF-β1 and MMP2 through p21 protein, promoted apoptosis and adhesion, and inhibited the proliferation and metastasis of BC cells.

Autoimmune gastritis causing both subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord and pernicious anemia is rare in clinical practice. Here, we report a case of subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord and pernicious anemia resulting from vitamin B12 deficiency due to autoimmune gastritis. ⋯ Autoimmune gastritis can lead to several diseases if not intervened in the early course. Neuropathy and hematopathy recur with treatment discontinuity. Methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin are unlikely to be more effective than vitamin B12.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to explore the effect of lamotrigine (LTG) on blood ammonia level in patients with epilepsy and identify risk factors affecting blood ammonia level. This study included 91 epilepsy patients who were treated with LTG at Department of Neurology, Zhongshan Hospital, Xiamen University from January 2011 to April 2016, and were followed up for 3 years. Blood samples were taken during the interictal state and analyzed for blood LTG and ammonia levels. ⋯ LTG combined with valproic acid therapy, seizure within 1 year, and elevated neutrophils affected blood ammonia level. Blood ammonia level was significantly correlated with plasma concentration of LTG. LTG combined with valproic acid therapy, seizure within 1 year, and elevated neutrophils may be risk factors for elevated blood ammonia level in epilepsy patients treated with LTG.

To investigate the feasibility of readout-segmented diffusion-weighted (rsDW) magnetic resonance (MR) in assessing nerve invasion of soft tissue tumor. Forty-four patients with soft tissue mass in upper leg suspected of nerve invasion underwent rsDW MR. Nerve invasion by tumor was rated by 2 radiologists, respectively. ⋯ Apparent diffusion coefficient was significantly higher in invaded nerves versus normal nerves (1.45 ± 0.67 × 10-3 mm2/s vs 1.39 ± 0.46 × 10-3 mm2/s, P < 0.05). Fraction of anisotropy was significantly lower in invaded nerves versus normal nerves (0.22 ± 0.11 vs 0.37 ± 0.13, P < .05). Readout-segmented DW MR was feasible in assessing sciatic nerve invasion by soft tissue tumor in selected patients.

To ascertain whether remote multimodality cardiovascular monitoring of health in pregnancy is feasible, 24 participants were asked to daily monitor body weight, heart rate, blood pressure, activity levels, and sleep patterns. Study participants took on average 4.3 (standard deviation = 2.20) home recordings of each modality per week across the 3 trimesters and 2.0 postpartum (standard deviation = 2.41), out of a recommended maximum of 7. Thus, remote monitoring indicative of cardiovascular health throughout and after pregnancy might be feasible for routine clinical care or within the context of a research study.
