Multiple myeloma is a clonal disorder of malignant plasma cells that comprises approximately 10% of hematologic malignancies. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and toxicity of carfilzomib- or bortezomib-based regimens for treatment of transplant-ineligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma by performing a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). ⋯ The carfilzomib-based regimens did not improve PFS, OS and CRR compared with the bortezomib-based regimens in transplant-ineligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma, and they showed higher toxicity.

Observational Study
Risk of obstetric and neonatal morbidity in gestational diabetes in a single institution: A retrospective, observational study.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as a carbohydrate intolerance with onset or first recognition occurring during pregnancy and GDM could be risk factor for various maternal fetal complications. This study aimed to investigate risks of maternal and neonatal outcomes according to GDM and normal glucose tolerance. This retrospective, observational study included singleton pregnant women who had received a 50-g oral glucose challenge test in 2nd trimester of gestation and gave birth at National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital. ⋯ Multivariate analysis, however, showed that GDM was not independent risk factor for LGA, NICU admission, and intubation rate. Compared with the non-GDM group, GDM was associated with an increased likelihood of preterm birth <37 weeks, however, did not increase cesarean delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, LGA, and NICU admission rate. This study showed that the majority of women with GDM delivered with similar maternal and neonatal outcomes in non-GDM women.

Review Case Reports
Avellis syndrome with ipsilateral prosopalgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and central post-stroke pain: A case report and literature review.
Avellis syndrome is a rare bulbar syndrome. The main lesions may involve nucleus ambiguus and the lateral spinothalamic tract. The typical reported clinical manifestations are hoarseness, dysphagia, pain, and temperature disturbance of contralateral body. The manifestations, however, may vary. We aim to report new manifestations of Avellis syndrome in this report. ⋯ We reported a case of Avellis syndrome who manifested as the typical reported manifestations. The patient, what's more, presented with ipsilateral trigeminal, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and central poststroke pain which were described for the first time. It is of great significance for clinicians to recognize the typical as well as other manifestations which helps to make a clear diagnosis.

Despite the usefulness of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of lower deep vein thrombosis (DVT), there is no consensus on safety and efficacy. We aim to systematically evaluate the safety and efficacy of TCM combined with Rivaroxaban in the treatment of lower limb DVT. ⋯ Based on the available evidence, TCM combined with Rivaroxaban for treating lower extremity DVT have better clinical efficacy and safety profile, reducing the risk of bleeding complications and adverse effects. Further improved studies are needed to support this inference.

Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) rarely causes cholesterol crystal embolism (CCE). In our case, the histological findings suggested that the onset of CCE occurred at different time points in different organs. ⋯ TACE for HCC may cause progressive CCE and damage in multiple organs. When progressive renal dysfunction, eosinophilia, or multiple organ dysfunction is observed after TACE, the CCE should be suspected.
