Numerous studies have explored whether serum beta 2-microglobulin (β2-MG) can be used as a biomarker for monitoring systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disease activity, but the results are conflicting. Therefore, we performed a systematic meta-analysis to further investigate the correlation between serum β2-MG level and SLE disease activity. ⋯ This study suggests that patients with SLE have higher serum β2-MG levels than healthy controls and that serum β2-MG levels are positively correlated with SLE disease activity. Thus, serum β2-MG level may be a promising biomarker for monitoring SLE disease activity.

Curcuminoids can prevent post-contrast acute kidney injury in chronic kidney disease patients: A randomized controlled trial.
Post contrast acute kidney injury (PC-AKI) following coronary procedures is a common cause of renal impairment in hospitalized patients, curcuminoids exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions and have shown positive effects on renal hemodynamic protection The objective of this study was to evaluate the role of curcuminoids in the prevention of PC-AKI in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. ⋯ Prophylactic administration of curcuminoids, in addition to standard treatment, reduces the incidence of PC-AKI in patients with CKD undergoing elective CAG.

Prognostic and clinicopathological significance of nm23-H1 expression in non-small cell lung cancer: A meta-analysis.
The relationship between the expression of nm23-H1 and the invasion and prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still controversial. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to determine the prognostic value of nm23-H1 in patients with NSCLC. And to explore the relationship between the expression of nm23-H1 and clinicopathological features in patients with NSCLC. ⋯ Nm23-H1 can be used as a biomarker to predict tumor invasiveness and evaluate the prognosis of patients with NSCLC.

Cholecystectomy is the intervention of choice for treating acute cholecystitis; when conservative management does not work, it operates on the patient outside the critical condition. It can be performed together with or after endoscopic papillotomy through endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) when it is concurrent with a situation of cholechodocolithiasis or when there is compression and consequent increase in pressure in the bile duct caused by a calculus jammed in the vesicular infundibulum (Mirizzi's syndrome), with or without jaundice, fever, and pain in the right hypochondrium (Charcot's Triad), which can progress to sepsis of biliary origin. This review aims to assess whether the timing of cholecystectomy (before or after ERCP) interferes with the postoperative period and clinical outcome in patients with acute cholecystitis. ⋯ International Prospective Registry of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) CRD42021290726.

The study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between fibromyalgia (FM) disease and depression, anxiety, anxiety sensitivity, fear-avoidance beliefs, and quality of life in female patients with a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. 37 female patients followed up with FM diagnosis in pain medicine clinic and a control group consisting of 37 healthy women were included in the study. Sociodemographic and Clinical Characteristics Data Form, Quality of Life Form, fear-avoidance beliefs questionnaire, Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Visual Analogue Scale was applied to the participants. When the patients in the FM group were compared to the control group; Statistically lower scores in all Quality of Life Form subscales except emotional role difficulty and social functionality scores; statistically higher scores in both physical and work activity subscales in fear-avoidance beliefs questionnaire; statistically higher scores in cognitive symptoms subscale in Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Visual Analogue Scale scores were found. ⋯ It was determined that the functionality and quality of life of patients diagnosed with FM decreased in daily life. An important contribution of the study to the literature is that it shows that the behavior of avoiding activity due to pain-induced fear exacerbates the pain and even contributes to its chronicity. These results, which show the effects of anxiety, depression, anxiety sensitivity, and fear-avoidance behavior on the prognosis of the disease in FM patients, indicate that psychiatric evaluation and treatment in FM patients is an important factor that determines the functionality and quality of life.
