This study aimed to explore the effectiveness and safety of Sishen pills for the treatment of diarrheal diabetic enteropathy (DDE). The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Systems Pharmacology and BATMAN-TCM databases were used to determine the chemical composition of Sishen pills and thus predict information on protein targets. We searched for potential targets of DDE in the GeneCards, DrugBank, Therapeutic Target (TTD), and DisGeNET databases. ⋯ The GO and KEGG pathway enrichment results indicated that the protein genes regulated by Sishen pills were mainly enriched in the response to lipopolysaccharides, the AMPK signaling pathway, the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, and other signaling pathways. The molecular docking results showed that the core active compounds exhibited good binding activity with the predicted targets. Sishen pills can regulate the immune function of the body through anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects for the treatment of DDE.

Corneal spherical aberration (CSA) plays an important role in the ocular refractive system. However, ophthalmologists have not considered the effect of difference cataract incisions on it. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of transparent corneal incision (TCI) and scleral tunnel incision (STI) on CSA after the cataract phacoemulsification with foldable IOLs. ⋯ For 3-month observation, preoperative CSA for TCI and STI are 0.32 ± 0.28 and 0.36 ± 0.23 μm, which of postoperative are 0.43 ± 0.16 and 0.39 ± 0.26 μm, respectively. The change of CSA is 0.10 ± 0.34 and 0.03 ± 0.21 μm (P = .312). For the phacoemulsification combined with foldable IOL implantation, STI has minimal effect on CSA, but TCI might increase postoperative CSA.

Early diagnosis of malignant melanoma is critical for effective treatment and reduced patient mortality. However, current clinical and histological variables show limited accuracy in diagnosis. Serum or urine level of 5-S-cysteinyldopa (5-S-CD) is a commonly used melanoma biomarker in Japan owing to its increased sensitivity compared with other melanoma markers. ⋯ Our results revealed that the triple combination of 5-S-CD, melanoma inhibitory activity, and interleukin-8 showed high diagnostic accuracy in detecting melanoma compared with each of the individual factors. Importantly, the triple marker showed specificity and utility in detecting early-stage melanoma. Our results suggest the utility of the triple marker as a diagnostic biomarker for melanoma patients.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the malignant epithelial tumors with a high metastasis rate. This study aimed to screen potential novel biomarkers involved in NPC metastasis. Microarray data of locoregionally advanced NPC (LA-NPC; GSE103611) were obtained from the database of Gene Expression Omnibus. ⋯ Four genes including CD44, B2M, PTPN11, and TRIM74 were associated with disease-free survival in NPC. The drug-gene interaction analysis revealed that upregulated genes CXCL10, CD44, B2M, XRCC5, and RPL11 might be potential druggable genes for patients with LA-NPC metastasis by regulating cell cycle, autophagy, and drug resistance. Upregulated CXCL10, CD44, B2M, XRCC5, and RPL11 might play important roles in LA-NPC metastasis by regulating cell cycle-related pathways.

Idiopathic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (INFH) seriously affects patients' activities and is a heavy burden to society and patients' families. Therefore, the early diagnosis and treatment of INFH is essential in reducing pain and burden. In the present study, the cancellous bone under the cartilage of the femoral head was isolated from patients with INFH and femoral neck fracture (FNF). ⋯ Reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blot analyses revealed that leucine-rich repeat-containing 17 (LRRC17) displayed the most significantly decreased mRNA and protein expression levels between the INFH and FNF groups. The expression profile of the differentially expressed genes and LRRC17 protein in the INFH and FNF groups was consistent with that obtained by WTS. LRRC17, a leucine repeat sequence, plays a significant role in regulating bone metabolism, thus indicating that LRRC17 downregulation could affect bone metabolism and could be considered a key factor in the pathogenesis of INFH.
