Luminal pressure gradient and risk of arteriovenous fistula nonmaturation.
While arteriovenous fistula (AVF) nonmaturation is a major issue of hemodialysis care, an effective treatment to improve AVF maturation remains lacking. AVF introduces pulsatile arterial blood flow into its venous limb and produces high luminal pressure gradient, which may have adverse effect on vascular remodeling. As such, the aim of the present study is to investigate effect of luminal pressure gradient on AVF nonmaturation. ⋯ Our findings showed that higher inflow/outflow ratio, inflow velocity, and AVF luminal pressure gradient in early postoperative ultrasound predicted risk of AVF nonmaturation. Reducing inflow/outflow diameter ratio or inflow rate may be an approach to improve AVF maturation. The predictive value of this early assessment might have impact on the clinical practice of AVF care.

Due to the huge impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on a global scale, the level of physical activity during confinement has become a widespread concern. This study summarizes the development of performance and research trends in COVID-19 and physical activity over the last 3 years. ⋯ This study provides researchers with directions to intervene in changing levels of physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic and valuable information for researchers in the field of sports medicine to identify potential collaborators, collaborating institutions, hot issues, and research frontiers.

Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) rarely causes cholesterol crystal embolism (CCE). In our case, the histological findings suggested that the onset of CCE occurred at different time points in different organs. ⋯ TACE for HCC may cause progressive CCE and damage in multiple organs. When progressive renal dysfunction, eosinophilia, or multiple organ dysfunction is observed after TACE, the CCE should be suspected.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide, leading to a large number of cancer-related mortalities. Aberrant CD8+ T cell infiltration plays a critical role in tumor progression and patient prognosis. This study aimed to identify a prognostic model for CRC based on CD8+ T cell-related genes. ⋯ Interestingly, although CRC tissues with higher risk scores had higher infiltration levels of CD8+ T cells, the level of immune checkpoint genes was also high. Moreover, the scRNA-sequencing analysis showed that the expression levels of CD8TDEGs in the prognostic model varied among different types of cells. This study constructed a novel prognostic model for CRC and provided a foundation for targeting CD8+ T cell infiltration to improve the survival of CRC patients.

Type II diabetes mellitus (DM2) is a worldwide disease with an important economic and health impact. Currently, depression, anxiety and stress are common disorders among diabetic populations but their respective prevalence may well be underestimated. So far, Latin American countries have only reported limited information about the impact of mental diseases on DM2 outpatients. ⋯ Finally, an income higher than the basic salary reduced the risk of depression alone (OR 0.39 [95% CI, 0.16-0.91]; P = .03). In conclusion, a high prevalence rate of depression, anxiety, and stress was found in the DM2 outpatient population. Thus, more tailored care surveillance for DM2 patients is needed considering the bio-psycho-social environment to provide an integral health management.
