Multicenter Study
Multi-center study of residual gastric volume and bowel preparation after the usage of 1L and 2L polyethylene glycol in Korea.
In colonoscopy, good bowel preparation is an important factor in determining the quality of colonoscopy. However, an increase in residual gastric volume (RGV) can lead to a higher risk of aspiration pneumonia. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the factors related to an increase in RGV with the usage of 1L polyethylene glycol (PEG). ⋯ Therefore, since RGV is higher in 1L PEG than in 2L PEG, it is necessary to be careful not to take water for at least 5 hours before the test.

Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) genes single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been connected with the susceptibility of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but with inconsistent results across the current evidences. The present work was schemed to explore the association between GSTs genes polymorphisms and the NAFLD vulnerability via meta-analysis. ⋯ This work revealed that the GSTM1 null, GSTT1 null and GSTP1-Val genotypes might be related to increased NAFLD susceptibility.

Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) is evolving in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) setting. Studies showed its efficacy in length of stay and hospitalization costs reduction. Moreover, it was suggested that OMT has a modulatory effect on the preterm infants' autonomic nervous system (ANS), influencing saturation and heart rate. ⋯ SD Grade was in line with the natural history of the underdevelopment due to prematurity. Our models indicate that the cardiac vagal tone is linearly related with SD Grade. This finding may improve the multidisciplinary decision making inside NICU and the management of modifiable factors, like SD, for cardiac vagal tone regulation.

Comparative Study
Comparison of short- and long-term outcomes of bariatric surgery methods: A retrospective study.
The present study is intended to retrospectively compare the short- and long-term outcomes of 3 different treatment methods in patients undergoing bariatric surgery and the variances in weight and nutritional parameters during the preoperative and postoperative periods. In this study, 534 patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), laparoscopic Roux-En-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB), and laparoscopic one anastomosis gastric bypass (LOAGB) between 2014 and 2021 were included. The sociodemographic and biodemographic characteristics of these patients, their weight losses and nutritional changes in the preoperative and postoperative periods, operative times, hospital stays, complications, and morbidity and mortality rates were retrospectively compared. ⋯ All 3 techniques were found to be successful in facilitating weight loss at the end of the first year. LRYGB and LOAGB were found to be superior to LSG in terms of remission from diabetes during the first 6 months, whereas LSG was superior to the other methods in terms of nutritional deficiencies. Despite being more advantageous in terms of operative time, LSG and LOAGB were disadvantageous compared with the LRYGB technique because of the higher rates of leakage and mortality in the LSG technique and the higher rate of bile reflux in the LOAGB technique.

This study aimed to evaluate the influence of subsidence in patients who performed stand-alone anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) by analyzing the long-term clinical and radiological outcomes. This retrospective study enrolled 53 patients with 79 segments with degenerative cervical disease treated with stand-alone ACDF with ≥5 years of follow-up. Segmental angle (SA), cervical sagittal alignment (CSA), subsidence, and fusion were analyzed. ⋯ However, the differences in the SA, CSA, and fusion rates between the groups were not statistically significant (P = .117, .98, and .682, respectively). Subsidence after stand-alone ACDF occurs to a certain capacity; however, it does not appear to significantly influence the radiological and clinical outcomes if foramen decompression is adequately and sufficiently provided in a long-term follow-up study. In contrast, subsidence appears to positively affect the fusion rate in the short-term follow-up.
