Patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) have high mortality rates; therefore, new biomarkers are necessary to predict the prognosis in the early stages. Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level is a specific marker of lung damage, but it is not sensitive because it is affected by several factors. This study aimed to determine whether the LDH/albumin ratio could be used as a prognostic biomarker in patients with severe ARDS due to COVID 19. ⋯ LDH/albumin ratio can be used as an independent prognostic factor for mortality in patients with severe ARDS caused by COVID-19.

Sequencing technologies, such as whole-exome sequencing (WES) and whole-genome sequencing (WGS), have been increasingly applied to medical research in recent years. Which countries, journals, and institutes (called entities) contributed most to the fields (WES/WGS) remains unknown. Temporal bar graphs (TBGs) are frequently used in trend analysis of publications. However, how to draw the TBG on the Sankey diagram is not well understood in bibliometrics. We thus aimed to investigate the evolution of article entities in the WES/WGS fields using publication-based TBGs and compare the individual research achievements (IRAs) among entities. ⋯ The number of WES/WGS-related articles has dramatically increased since 2017. TBGs, particularly with hTs on the Sankey, are recommended for research on a topic (or in a discipline) to compare trends of publications and IRAs for entities in future bibliographical studies.

The h-index does not take into account the full citation list of a researcher to evaluate individual research achievements (IRAs). As a generalization of the h-index, the hT-index takes all citations into account to evaluate IRAs. Compared to other bibliometric indices, it is unclear whether the hT-index is more closely associated with the h-index. We utilized articles published on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis (HD/PD) to validate the hT-index as a measure of the most significant contributions to HD/PD. ⋯ The hT-index was demonstrated to be appropriate for assessing IRAs along with visualizations. The hT-index is recommended in future bibliometric analyses of IRAs as a complement to the h-index.

Evaluation efficacy and safety of epidural analgesia in second-trimester induced labor: A single-center, prospective, non-randomized, controlled study.
Second-trimester induced labor in pregnant women was often more likely to suffer from psychological and physiological double pain. However, the analgesic management received less attention, and the optimal analgesic mode for second-trimester induced labor had not been determined. Our objective was to evaluate the feasible of epidural analgesia (EA) in second-trimester induced labor. ⋯ EA can significantly reduce the pain of parturients, which may be effective and safe in the second-trimester induced labor.

Influence of psychological responses of caregiving on the perceived health of family caregivers to acute stroke survivors.
Family caregivers provide round-the-clock care to their family members who had a stroke. The detrimental effects of caregiving on caregiver's health would lead to the abandonment of caregiver role and institutionalization of stroke survivors. This study aims to determine the factors associated with the perceived health status of family caregivers to stroke survivors. ⋯ Moreover, caregiving competence (β = 0.29, P < .001) was the sole significant psychological factor associated with perceived physical health. Caregiving competence, problem-solving abilities, and severity of depressive symptoms are significant modifiable correlates of the perceived health of caregivers. Intervention for improving these psychological responses of caregivers is suggested incorporated in stroke rehabilitation programs.
