Meta Analysis
Prognostic value of MTV and TLG of 18 F-FDG PET in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: A meta-analysis.
The current systematic review and meta-analysis explored the value of metabolic tumor volume (MTV) as well as total lesion glycolysis (TLG) in predicting the prognosis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) using 18 F-FDG PET parameters. ⋯ This work indicated that PET/CT is of predictive significance across HNSCC cases. Although the included articles used different methods and recruited HNSCC cases with high clinical heterogeneity; however, our findings confirmed that an elevated MTV can predict the increased risk of side reactions or even death among HNSCC cases and that an elevated TLG can predict a higher death risk.

The main purpose of this study was to build a prediction model for male breast cancer (MBC) patients to predict the possibility of distant metastasis. The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database was used to obtain data on patients with MBC. The patients were divided into a training set and a validation set at a ratio of 7:3. ⋯ The area under the curve values for the nomogram established in the training set and validation set were 0.8224 (95%CI: 0.7796-0.8652) and 0.8631 (95%CI: 0.7937-0.9326), suggesting that the nomogram had good predictive power. The calibration plots illustrated an acceptable correlation between the prediction by nomogram and the actual observation, as the calibration curve was closed to the diagonal bisector line. An easy-to-use nomogram, being proven to be with reliable discrimination ability and accuracy, was established to predict distant metastasis for male patients with breast cancer using the easily available risk factors.

To explore the prognostic significance and underlying mechanism of TYRO protein tyrosine kinase-binding protein (TYROBP) in osteosarcoma. Firstly, the expression of TYROBP was analyzed using the t test. The Kaplan-Meier plotter analysis and a receiver operating characteristic curve were performed to evaluate the influence of TYROBP on overall survival (OS). ⋯ Importantly, TYROBP positively correlated with immune scores (P < .001, R = .87). TYROBP served as an independent prognostic biomarker for OS in osteosarcoma. High TYROBP expression might prolong the survival of osteosarcoma patients mainly through promoting antitumor immunity.

A new mutation c.685G>A:p.E229K in the KCNJ11 gene: A case report of maturity-onset diabetes of the young13.
Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is an autosomal dominant monogenic diabetes. We report a pair of father and son diagnosed as MODY13 with a new mutation c.685G>A:p.E229K in the inwardly rectifying subfamily J, member 11 (KCNJ11) gene. ⋯ The diagnosis of MODY13 requires genetic testing. After confirmation, medication and diet need to be adjusted to control blood glucose. The treatment plan was adjusted. After glimepiride was administered, symptoms of diabetes were effectively improved. According to our knowledge, this is the first reported mutation of c.685G>A:p.E229K in the KCNJ11 gene.

Levetiracetam poisoning with acute kidney injury treated with hemodialysis: A case report.
Levetiracetam is a newer second-generation anticonvulsant for the treatment of generalized and partial seizure disorders. Common adverse effects are rhabdomyolysis and neuropsychiatric problems, such as somnolence, dizziness, and mood changes. The present report describes the first case, to our knowledge, of levetiracetam overdose resulting in acute kidney injury for which hemodialysis was required. ⋯ We should be aware of the possibility that severe renal function deterioration may occur in some patients with levetiracetam overdose. It is possible that clinicians underestimate the occurrence of this problem. In cases of acute renal failure in levetiracetam poisoning, induction of dialysis is beneficial.
