This study aims to evaluate the utility of calculated computed tomography (CT) attenuation value ratio (AVR) and enhancement pattern in distinguishing pancreatic solid serous cystadenomas (SCAs) from nonfunctional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NF-pNETs). A total of 142 consecutive patients with 22 solid SCAs and 120 NF-pNETs confirmed by pathology were included in this retrospective study. All patients underwent preoperative contrast-enhanced CT and were categorized into 2 groups, solid SCA and NF-pNET groups. ⋯ Solid SCAs showed significantly more wash-in and wash-out enhancement patterns than NF-pNETs (P < .05). For unenhanced, arterial, portal venous, and delayed phases, and enhancement pattern, the area under the curve (AUC) values were 0.96, 0.72, 0.80, 0.85, and 0.86, respectively. Low AVR on unenhanced CT and wash-in and wash-out enhancement patterns were useful for differentiating solid SCAs from NF-pNETs and may be useful for clinical decisions, a clearer opinion will be formed with further studies to be conducted with larger patient numbers.

Effects of carotid artery stenting on cognitive impairment in patients with severe symptomatic carotid artery stenosis.
The effect of carotid artery stenting and medication on improvement of cognitive function in patients with severe symptomatic carotid artery stenosis is unknown. To investigate the effect of stenting compared with medication alone for severe carotid atherosclerotic stenosis on cognitive impairment. Patients with carotid stenosis and cognitive impairment were prospectively randomly divided into 2 groups of stenting or medication alone. ⋯ The stenting group had significantly (P < .05) better scores than the medication alone group at the same time. At 6-month follow-up, the visuospatial/executive functions (3.69 ± 1.42 vs 2.42 ± 1.23), attention (5.24 ± 1.52 vs 3.63 ± 1.47), and language (2.64 ± 0.71 vs 1.96 ± 0.69) were significantly (P < .05) improved in the stenting group compared with the medication alone group. Carotid artery stenting may significantly improve cognitive impairment and neurological function compared with medication alone in patients with severe carotid atherosclerotic stenosis concurrent with cognitive impairment.

Enterovirus 71 (EV71) vaccine for hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) prevention has been available for several years. However, as a new vaccine, the impact of EV71 vaccination on the epidemiology and etiology of HFMD is currently unclear. The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the changes of epidemiological characteristics and etiology of HFMD patients after the introduction of EV71 vaccine. ⋯ The dominant enterovirus serotypes of hospitalized HFMD changed significantly after the introduction of EV71 vaccine. The proportion of severe cases decreased significantly after the vaccination, but EV71 was still a major pathogen in patients with severe HFMD. More age-appropriate children are recommended to get vaccinated to establish stronger herd immunity in the population.

This study retrospectively explored the effectiveness of electroacupuncture (EA) combined with Qianzhengsan decoction (QZSD) for the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis (PFP). This retrospective study included patients with PFP admitted to a single hospital between July 2018 and June 2020. Ninety patients were included and divided into treatment (n = 45) and control (n = 45) groups. ⋯ Patients in both groups reported adverse events. The results of this study showed that patients with PFP and QZSD received better outcomes than those who did not. Further studies are required to confirm these results.

This study sought to characterize the utility of a gene methylation-based biomarker test that has been validated to predict progression towards esophageal adenocarcinoma. Barrett esophagus (BE) is a precursor condition for esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) with somewhat variable approaches among gastroenterologists toward managing neoplastic progression risk. Capsulomics has developed a validated multigene DNA methylation-based biomarker assay performed on BE biopsies designed to address this variability by classifying BE patients into progression risk groups. ⋯ The assay significantly impacted surveillance intervals for both high-risk (22.0 no assay vs 12.3 months with assay; P = 1.7E-8) and low-risk (7.9 no assay vs 11.4 months with assay, P = 8.8E-4) stratified case results. Finally, the assay also significantly impacted decisions to pursue active ablation treatments in both high-risk (5% recommending ablation without assay vs 42% with assay; P = 3.7E-11) and low-risk (42% recommending ablation without assay vs 29% with assay; P = .049) stratified case results. Results demonstrated a strong effect of the assay on clinical decision making, even in conjunction with established clinical guidelines.
