To assess the influence of marital status on the survival of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), we used the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database to analyze 5477 patients who were diagnosed with NPC from 2004 to 2016. ⋯ Marital status is an independent prognostic factor of NPC. Separated/widowed/divorced patients had a significantly increased risk of NPC-related death (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.180, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.721-2.757, P < .001) compared to married patients. The single/unmarried (P = .355) group had a CSS similar to that of the unmarried group. Marital status is an independent prognostic factor of survival in NPC patients. Separated/widowed/divorced status increases the risk of NPC mortality.

Intracerebral hematoma (ICH) as a result of ruptured of intracranial aneurysms often arises in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Few studies focused on risk factors for ICH and not the impact of residual hematoma after evacuation on the outcomes of the patients. Therefore, 2 questions need to be answered: does residual hematoma after evacuation have impact on the outcome of patients who present with ICH as a result of ruptured intracranial aneurysms? Is radical pursuit of the hematoma necessary? The study was a single-center longitudinal observational type. ⋯ Furthermore, our logistic regression model showed that advance age, poor Hunt-Hess grade, and vascular injury due to surgery were contributing factors for poor outcome of patients with ICH. Our data suggested that aggressive hematoma evacuation may not benefit the poor-grade patients. Majority of poor outcomes were due to surgical complications which were vascular related as a result of excessive pursuit of ICH.

Exposure to excessive heat can impact kidney health. Climate change is projected to aggravate this impact. An analysis of articles published between 1958 and 2021 was conducted to explore the progress of the research on this issue. ⋯ Research on heat-related kidney injury has witnessed rapid development in recent decades, motivated by the emergence of chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology and climate change. Developing countries in hot regions must increase their productivity in this research area through international collaboration and partnerships.

Group cognitive behavioral therapy as an effective approach for patients with alcohol dependence: A perspective study.
Alcohol dependence (AD) syndrome refers to a strong addiction to alcohol and high tolerance physiologically or psychologically, due to the repeated consumption of alcohol-based substances. This study aimed to examine the efficacy of group cognitive behavioral therapy (GCBT) on patients with AD. A total of 128 patients with AD were randomly assigned to the GCBT or control group. ⋯ Contrastingly, the percentage of patients with AD with partial compliance in the GCBT group was much lower than that in the control group (3.2% vs 34.4%, P < .001). The relapse rate (%) of drinking in patients with AD in the GCBT group was much lower than that in the control group (1.56% vs 21.8%, P = .001 for 6 months and 4.7% vs 51.6%, P < .001 for 12 months). The results suggest that GCBT for 8 weeks is an effective approach for patients with AD, improving problem-solving ability, self-management efficacy, positive response, and social function, leading to increase in treatment compliance, and reducing relapse rate.

Lipid metabolism affects cell proliferation, differentiation, membrane homeostasis and drug resistance. An in-depth exploration of lipid metabolism in gliomas might provide a novel direction for gliomas treatment. A lipid metabolism-related risk signature was constructed in our study to assess the prognosis of patients with gliomas. ⋯ Immunological parameters, drug sensitivity, immunotherapy benefits, and numerous molecular mechanisms were significantly associated with the risk score. A lipid metabolism-related risk signature might effectively assess the prognosis of patients with gliomas. The risk score might guide individualized treatment and further clinical decision-making for patients with gliomas.
