Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease with the chronic inflammation of glandular tissues, typically salivary and lacrimal glands. Since mammary tissue shares the glandular structure, Sjögren's syndrome may also target mammary tissue to cause breast diseases. We therefore determined whether primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) is associated with the increased risk of breast cancer (BC) and breast fibrocystic change (FC). ⋯ Comorbidity analysis as risk factor for BC in pSS patients showed diabetes mellitus was strongly associated with the increased risk of BC (odds ratio = 10.4, P = .0006), whereas breast FC was inversely associated with the risk of BC (odds ratio = 0.077 P = .0158). These data indicated that pSS is association with the increased risk of BC and with the high prevalence of ultrasonographic breast FC. Our results also suggest that, in pSS patients, the high anti-SSA(Ro) antibody titers and diabetes mellitus confer the increased risk of BC, whereas the absence of ultrasonographic breast FC predicts the higher risk of BC.

To investigate the risk factors for the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). ⋯ Raynaud phenomenon, vasculitis, anti-RNP antibodies, serositis, interstitial lung lesions, rheumatoid factor, and pericardial effusion are risk factors for the development of PAH in patients with SLE.

Review Case Reports
Campylobacter fetus-induced primary psoas abscess in patient with gouty arthritis: A case report and literature review.
Campylobacter fetus is rare pathogen with high mortality rate in immunosuppressive hosts. This study aimed to summarize clinical and pathological presentation of C fetus induced psoas abscess. ⋯ C fetus should be noticed in immunosuppressive patient with exposure to livestock who present with rare systematic or local invasive infection. We advocated the meropenem for the first-line treatment against C fetus.

Review Case Reports
Rare occurrence of pulmonary coinfection involving Aspergillus fumigatus and Nocardia cyriacigeorgica in immunocompetent patients based on NGS: A case report and literature review.
In our search on PubMed, we found that reports of co-infections involving Aspergillus fumigatus and Nocardia cyriacigeorgica in the literature are notably scarce. Most cases have been documented in patients with compromised immune systems or underlying pulmonary conditions. In contrast, our patient did not present with any of these risk factors. Furthermore, there have been no recent incidents such as near-drowning or other accidents in the patient history. To the best of our knowledge, this case represents a hitherto unreported clinical scenario. To enhance comprehension, we conducted a comprehensive literature review by compiling a total of 20 case reports (spanning from 1984 to 2023) on co-infections involving Aspergillus and Nocardia species, retrieved from PubMed. ⋯ A fumigatus and N cyriacigeorgica can manifest as a co-infection in immunocompetent patients. Clinicians should prioritize the significant advantages and value of NGS in detecting rare and mixed pathogens associated with pulmonary infections.

Clinical data has shown that cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have emerged as a prominent cause of mortality in individuals with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This research aimed to reveal the comorbid effects of CVDs in patients with HCC. The cardiovascular mortality of patients diagnosed with HCC between 2000 and 2014 was compared to that of the general US population. ⋯ This study suggests that patients with HCC are at significant risk of developing CVD. Competing risk analyses indicated that age, grade, tumor size, surveillance, epidemiology, and end results stage, and surgical status were independent risk factors for CVD in patients with HCC. Therefore, patients with HCC require enhanced preventive screening and management of CVDs during and after treatment to improve patient survival.
