To summarize the clinical characteristics and explore the risk factors for miscarriage of a viable intrauterine pregnancy following surgical intervention in patients with heterotopic pregnancy (HP). A total of 106 women diagnosed with HP that underwent surgical intervention in the Women's Hospital School of Medicine Zhejiang University between January 2014 and December 2021 were included in this retrospective study. They were divided into a miscarriage group (n = 13) and an ongoing pregnancy group (n = 93) according to the outcomes of the HP within 2 weeks after surgery. ⋯ Compared to the ongoing pregnancy group, the miscarriage group had a higher body mass index, earlier gestational age at treatment, and higher volume of hemoperitoneum (P < .05 for all). Logistic multivariate analysis indicated that the women with a hemoperitoneum volume > 200 mL had significantly higher risk of miscarriage after adjusting covariates [OR (odds ratio) = 5.285, 95% CI (confidence interval) (1.152-24.238), P < .05]. Hemoperitoneum volume was independently associated with miscarriage of viable intrauterine pregnancies in patients with HP within 2 weeks of surgical intervention.

This study aimed to determine the incidence of congenital hypothyroidism in Turkey's Diyarbakir Province and assess the development and growth conditions of people with congenital hypothyroidism. Patients born between 2011-2019 and diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism within the scope of the newborn screening program were included. The medical records of these patients were retrospectively reviewed. ⋯ The incidence of congenital hypothyroidism was higher in our region. The ratio of consanguinity between parents was higher in patients diagnosed with permanent congenital hypothyroidism than in those diagnosed with transient congenital hypothyroidism. According to the most recent follow-up, weight and age were found to be similar in patients with transient and permanent congenital hypothyroidism.

Advanced HIV disease (AHD) remains a significant burden, despite the widespread use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) programs. Individuals with AHD are at a high risk of death even after starting ART. We characterized treatment naïve and treatment experienced clients presenting with AHD in western Kenya to inform service delivery and program improvement. ⋯ The proportions of ART-experienced and -naïve clients regarding age, sex and marital status were similar. However, a higher proportion of ART-experienced clients received care at primary care facilities, (93(28%) vs. 199 (13%); P < .001); were WHO stage 3/4 at AHD diagnosis, 273 (84%) vs. 1187 (79%) (P = .041); and had died or been LTFU, (124 (38%) vs. 105 (7%); P < .001). With increasing prevalence of patients on ART, the proportion of AHD treatment-experienced clients may increase without effective interventions to ensure that these patients remain in care.
