Once-weekly insulin is expected to improve treatment compliance and durability and lead to better glycemic control. Several clinical trials on once-weekly insulin have recently been published. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the efficacy and safety of once-weekly insulin versus once-daily insulin in type 2 diabetes (T2D). ⋯ Our meta-analysis found that insulin weekly was well tolerated and effective for glycemic control. Once-weekly insulin was not inferior to once-daily insulin in both efficacy and safety in T2D.

As the population ages, the prevalence of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) steadily increases, resulting in a significant economic burden on society. In East Asian nations, Chinese medicine has been used extensively to teat CSVD and has been reported to improve the cognitive function of patients. The present study aimed to comprehensively assess the efficacy and safety of Chinese medicine as adjuvant therapy for CSVD. ⋯ Findings of the present study indicate that the Chinese medicine, as an adjuvant to conventional treatment, appeared to be efficacious in enhancing cognitive function, reducing Chinese medicine syndrome score, improving blood biochemical markers, and improving cerebral blood flow perfusion in patients with CSVD, without any notable adverse reactions. However, it is imperative to validate these conclusions in future high-quality investigations.

Pelvic metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary site: A case report and brief literature review.
Cancer with unknown primary site is a kind of disease that is difficult to deal with clinically, accounting for 2% to 9% of all newly diagnosed cancer cases. Here, we report such a case with pelvic metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of an unknown primary site and review the relevant literature. ⋯ Our case demonstrates that surgery combined with chemotherapy could be helpful for pelvic metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary site.

Administration of combined spinal epidural anesthesia with ultrasound-assisted positioning in obese patients undergoing open hysterectomy: A randomized controlled trial.
Administration of combined spinal epidural anesthesia (CSEA) with traditional landmark-guided positioning can be challenging in patients with high body mass index (BMI). The popularization of ultrasound technology may effectively solve these problems. However, reports on the administration of CSEA ultrasound-assisted positioning in obese populations are relatively limited and have made inconsistent conclusions. We aimed to investigate the ability of ultrasound-assisted positioning to improve the success rate of CSEA in obese patients. ⋯ The success rate of first puncture attempt and positioning accuracy in CSEA with ultrasound-assisted is significantly higher than those based on landmark-guided location in obese patients.

Effect of functional electrical stimulation-based mirror therapy using gesture recognition biofeedback on upper extremity function in patients with chronic stroke: A randomized controlled trial.
Mirror therapy (MT) is an intervention used for upper extremity rehabilitation in stroke patients and has been studied in various fields. Recently, effective MT methods have been introduced in combination with neuromuscular electrical stimulation or with electromyography (EMG)-triggered biofeedback. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of functional electrical stimulation (FES)-based MT incorporating a motion recognition biofeedback device on upper extremity motor recovery to chronic stroke patients. ⋯ FES-based MT using gesture recognition biofeedback is an effective intervention method for improving upper extremity motor recovery and function, active-ROM in patients with chronic stroke. This study suggests that incorporating gesture-recognition biofeedback into FES-based MT can provide additional benefits to patients with chronic stroke.
