Neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2)-related vestibular schwannoma (NF2-VS) is a rare genetic disorder that results in bilateral acoustic neuromas. However, the exact pathogenesis of the disease is still unclear. This study aims to use bioinformatics analyses to identify potential hub genes and therapeutic. ⋯ In addition, 10 drugs with enrichment scores < -0.7 were identified as drug candidates. Our conclusions offered a novel insight into the potential underlying mechanisms behind NF2-VS. These findings may facilitate the identification of novel therapeutic targets in the future.

Intrauterine microcephaly is a complex and lifelong condition that poses significant ethical challenges for clinicians and parents. The prognosis of microcephaly is highly variable and depends on the underlying cause and severity. In addition, microcephaly is often associated with various comorbidities, including intellectual disability, developmental delay, and epilepsy. Ultrasonography (US) is currently the most commonly used imaging modality for detecting microcephaly in the second trimester of pregnancy. However, antenatal brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly being used as a more sensitive tool to identify structural abnormalities that may suggest a specific diagnosis. In this study, we report a case series of microcephaly diagnosed through the combination of MRI and US. ⋯ US is an important tool for diagnosing fetal microcephaly. However, MRI can overcome the limitations of US and detect additional brain structural abnormalities, thereby providing more specific and valuable prenatal diagnostic information. Therefore, combining MRI and US has significant diagnostic value for fetal microcephaly.

The ChatGPT (Open AI, San Francisco, CA), denoted by the Chat Generative Pretrained Transformer, has been a hot topic for discussion over the past few months. A verification of whether the code for drawing circle packing charts (CPCs) with R can be generated by ChatGPT and used to identify characteristics of articles by anesthesiology authors is needed. This study aimed to provide insights into article characteristics in the field of anesthesiology and to highlight the potential of ChatGPT for data visualization techniques (e.g., CPCs) in bibliometric analysis. ⋯ No such articles with CPCs regarding bibliometrics have ever been found in PubMed. The code for drawing CPCs with R can be generated by ChatGPT, but further modification is required for implementation in bibliometrics. CPCs should be used in future studies to identify the characteristics of articles in other areas of research rather than limiting them to anesthesiology, as we did in this study.

Doctors facing communication barriers when assessing patients in emergency departments (ED) is a frequent phenomenon, as the global prevalence of dementia and migration have increased. This study aims to explore how communication barriers influence moral distress as perceived by medical doctors working at emergency departments. Twelve doctors at 2 different EDs in Stockholm, Sweden, participated. ⋯ Informants' responses were analyzed using qualitative thematic analysis. The results suggest that doctors experience moral distress when assessing patients with communication barriers due to an inability to mediate calm and safety and understand their patients, and due an increased need of resources and difficulties in obtaining consent before conducting examinations or interventions. In conclusion, communication barriers can be a cause of moral distress, which should be considered when developing tools and methods to mitigate and manage moral distress.

We aimed to evaluate the success of the ratio of chin-nape circumference (CNC) and neck circumference (NC) to CNC in predicting difficult mask ventilation (DMV) or difficult intubation (DI). Eighty-seven obese patients (body mass index ≥ 30) were evaluated between September 15, 2019 and September 15, 2020. Mallampati score, mouth opening, upper lip bite test, distance between incisors, thyromental distance (TMD), sternomental distance (SMD), and thyromental height were recorded. ⋯ A distance between the incisors < 4.85 cm and a NC > 41.5 cm were found to be independent risk factors for DI. CNC may predict DMV and DI in obese patients. The ratio of NC to CNC may predict DMV in obese patients.
