Resection of bilateral massive Achilles tendon xanthomata with reconstruction using vascularized iliotibial tract: A case report and literature review.
Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disease. Surgical treatment is only indicated when the xanthoma becomes large, painful, and irritable with shoe wear. Reconstruction of the large defect following resection challenging, especially with resection of the entire Achilles tendon. ⋯ Reconstruction of a total Achilles tendon defect using Vascularized iliotibial tract is safe and effective.

To clarify the differences in biomechanical characteristics present in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients during walking. ⋯ AIS has characteristic biomechanical changes in spatiotemporal, phase kinematics, motor mechanics, and electromyographic signatures. Further comprehensive studies are required in the future to analyze the biomechanical and electromyographic differences among different degrees and types of scoliosis, as well as the differences between the concave and convex sides of scoliosis during walking.

Effect of the Home to Hospital to Home nutrition management program on postoperative liver cancer patients: A single-center randomized controlled study.
Malnutrition is the most common complication in postoperative liver cancer patients. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the Home to Hospital to Home nutrition management program on postoperative liver cancer patients. ⋯ The Home to Hospital to Home nutrition management program improves the nutritional status of postoperative liver cancer patients, lowers the incidence of complications, shortens hospital stays, increases patient satisfaction, and promotes the early recovery of patients.

Procalcitonin and blood lactate level as predictive biomarkers in pediatric multiple trauma patients' pediatric intensive care outcomes: A retrospective observational study.
Pediatric trauma represents a significant source of morbidity and mortality in children, encompassing a broad spectrum of injuries. Despite advancements in the treatment and prevention of injuries, the risk of trauma in children remains a persistent concern. Severe trauma cases often necessitate admission to a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). ⋯ Procalcitonin and blood lactate levels were found to have significant predictive power for mortality with odds ratios of 1.05 (P = .04) and 1.87 (P = .02), respectively. Both blood lactate and procalcitonin levels were significantly associated with the duration of IMV support, the period of inotropic drug administration, and the length of PICU stay (P < .01; P < .01; P < .01, respectively). this research underscores the prognostic value of initial procalcitonin and lactate levels about the intensive care trajectory of pediatric trauma patients. The findings suggest that both procalcitonin and lactate levels may play pivotal roles as potential biomarkers in predicting and managing clinical outcomes in this population.

Our goal was to assess the effectiveness of fine-needle aspiration thyroglobulin (FNA-Tg) in detecting malignant lymph nodes (LNs) in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). We also aimed to determine the factors that affect the accuracy of FNA-Tg. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the laboratory, ultrasonographic, histopathological, FNA cytology (FNA-C), and FNA-Tg results of 176 DTC patients. ⋯ Serum Tg positivity and serum thyroid-stimulating hormone were positively correlated with FNA-Tg levels in detecting malignant LNs. Our study demonstrated that FNA-Tg is a reliable method for detecting LN metastases in DTC patients, with a 3.14 ng/mL cutoff value. However, each center should take into account factors such as serum thyroid-stimulating hormone, serum Tg, and the presence of thyroid tissue when interpreting FNA-Tg results and determining the appropriate cutoff level.
