This article explores the potential ethical hazards of artificial intelligence (AI) on society from an ethical perspective. We introduce the development and application of AI, emphasizing its potential benefits and possible negative impacts. ⋯ These recommendations include strengthening regulation and supervision of AI, increasing public understanding and awareness of AI, and actively exploring how to use the advantages of AI to achieve a more just, equal, and sustainable social development. Only by actively exploring the advantages of AI while avoiding its negative impacts can we better respond to future challenges.

Accomplish a thorough review on the existing biomechanical and clinical studies about coronal plane fractures of the distal femur. ⋯ Lateral coronal plane fractures of the distal femur are more frequent than medial, present a more vertical fracture line, and usually concentrate on the weight bearing zone of the condyle. The Letenneur system is the most used classification method for this fracture pattern. Posterior-to-anterior fixation using isolated lag screws (for osteochondral fragments-Letenneur type 2) or associated with a posterior buttressing plate (when the fracture pattern is amenable for plate fixation-Letenneur types 1 and 3) is biomechanically more efficient than anterior-to-posterior fixation. Anterior-to-posterior fixation using lag screws complemented or not by a plate remains a widely used treatment option due to the surgeons' familiarity with the anterior approaches and lower risk of iatrogenic neurovascular injuries. There is no consensus in the literature regarding diameter and number of screws for fixation of coronal plane fractures of the distal femur.

The aim of this study is to compare the clinical outcomes and accuracy of robot-assisted (RA) versus fluoroscopy-guided (FG) pedicle screw fixation of thoracolumbar compression fractures. We retrospectively enrolled 85 patients with surgically treated thoracolumbar compression fractures in our study (RA group, 45 patients; FG group, 40 patients). We analyzed the accuracy of pedicle screw placement by using the Gertzbein-Robbins classification, and calculated the one-time success rate (i.e., the rate of screws successfully inserted in the first attempt). ⋯ The rates of grade A screw placement (96% vs 68.5%; P < .005), clinically acceptable screw placement (98.2% vs 86%; P < .005), and the one-time success rate (97.3% vs 82.5%; P < .005) were all significantly higher in the RA group than in the FG group. No differences were observed in sex, age, body mass index, volume of blood loss, operative time, visual analogue scale scores, Cobb angle, and postoperative complications between the 2 groups. Compared to FG surgery, RA surgery yielded greater accuracy and one-time success rates of pedicle screw fixation of thoracolumbar compression fractures, with comparable clinical outcomes.

Intestinal stent implantation using a water injection device with carbon dioxide and transparent cap: A case report.
Preoperative endoscopic intestinal stent placement can relieve the symptoms of malignant bowel obstruction (MBO) pending investigations, staging, and surgery, but it is a technically challenging procedure. This paper presents a woman with MBO who successfully underwent intestinal stent implantation using a water injection device with carbon dioxide and a transparent cap. ⋯ Single-person intestinal stent implantation using a water injection device with carbon dioxide and a transparent cap can achieve endoscopic intestinal stent placement for MBO.

Endothelial cell (EC) activation may increase systemic vascular permeability, causing extravascular lung water (EVLW) in sepsis with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, the correlation between thrombin and EVLW in sepsis and ARDS has not yet been addressed. Patients with sepsis and ARDS were prospectively enrolled between 2014 and 2016, and EVLW and serum thrombin levels on days 1 and 3 were measured and compared between surviving and non-surviving patients. ⋯ EVLW and thrombin levels were positively correlated (r2 = 0.71, P < .0001). In vitro, the morphology and junctions of HUVECs changed when the serum from patients with high EVLW was added. The intercellular distances among the control, high EVLW, and low EVLW groups were 5.25 ± 1.22, 21.33 ± 2.15, and 11.17 ± 1.64 µm, respectively (P < .05).
