Hsa_circ_0124554 may serve as a biomarker for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer: An observational study.
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play important roles in the occurrence and development of cancer, and have been shown with diagnostic values in various cancers. The latest research showed that hsa_circ_0124554 is closely related to liver metastasis and vascular invasion in colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to investigate whether hsa_circ_0124554 can be used as a diagnostic marker for CRC. ⋯ The AUC of the expression combined hsa_circ_0124554, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) had the best diagnostic performance (AUC = 0.899) in the CRC groups, and the sensitivity and specificity were 0.844 and 0.844. The expression of hsa_circ_0124554 was up-regulated in the tissues and plasma in CRC patients, which may be a new biomarker for the diagnosis of CRC. The combination hsa_circ_0124554, CEA and CA199 has the best diagnostic efficacy in CRC.

Fragile X-related protein 1 (FXR1) is an RNA-binding protein that belongs to the fragile X-related (FXR) family. Studies have shown that FXR1 plays an important role in cancer cell proliferation, invasion and migration and is differentially expressed in cancers. This study aimed to gain a comprehensive and systematic understanding of the analysis of FXR1's role in cancers. ⋯ Our study provides insights into the role of FXR1 in promoting, inhibiting, and treating diverse cancers. FXR1 has the potential to serve as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for cancer, with therapeutic value in immune-based, targeted, or cytotoxic treatments. Further clinical validation and exploration of FXR1 in cancer treatment is necessary.

Urinary dysfunction triggered by varicella-zoster virus (VZV) attacking the nervous system seriously affects the quality of life of patients and may even cause irreversible damage to the urinary system. This a 62-year-old man with acute urinary retention triggered by VZV, who was cured after acupuncture treatment. The rational application of acupuncture therapy to promote the recovery of bladder contraction function can effectively relieve the symptoms of dysuria, shorten the course of the disease. ⋯ This study demonstrates that acupuncture is safe and effective in the treatment of acute urinary retention caused by VZV, which is worth recommending as a conservative treatment. Moreover, we found that the early intervention and full-term treatment with acupuncture is particularly important, provided that the right key acupoints are selected.

Cardiovascular sequelae of hyperthyroidism: A rare case report of thyrotoxic cardiomyopathy.

Clinicians are urged to consider such intricate connections and remain vigilant for atypical cardiac manifestations in patients with thyroid dysfunction. Timely intervention and tailored management strategies are paramount in mitigating the impact of these rare yet clinically significant conditions.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common vascular disease of venous return disorders, including deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (PE), with high morbidity and high mortality. However, the relationship between oxidative phosphorylation and NDUFB11 and venous thromboembolism is still unclear. The venous thromboembolism datasets GSE48000 and GSE19151 were downloaded, and the differentially expressed Genes (DEGs) were screened. ⋯ The result of CTD showed that 12 genes (RPS24, FAU, RPLP0, RPS15A, RPS29, RPL9, RPL31, RPL27, NDUFB11, RPL34, COX7B, RPS27L) were associated with chemical and drug-induced liver injury, inflammation, kidney disease, and congenital pure red cell aplasia. WB and RT-qPCR results showed that the expression levels of 12 genes in venous thromboembolism were higher than normal whole blood tissue samples. NDUFB11 is highly expressed in catheter-related venous thromboembolism during continuous blood purification, which may lead to the formation of venous thrombosis through oxidative phosphorylation pathway.
