For patients with long-term indwelling catheterization, bladder function will be affected. It is necessary to explore whether biomimetic urine flow control (BUFC) can improve bladder function in patients undergoing indwelling catheterization. A retrospective, data-only, cohort study was carried out. ⋯ The Urinary Volume and maximal urinary flow rate of the unobstructed group showed a continuous downward trend, while the BUFC group remained stable, and there was a statistical difference (P < .05) between the 2 groups since day 20. The bladder ultrasound imaging showed that the bladder volume of the BUFC group did not decrease significantly on the 30th day. BUFC technology, which provided by a urodynamic monitoring system, has potential protective effects of the bladder function after indwelling catheterization.

Anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity is a major concern for anesthetists for more than 20 years. Many experimental and clinical studies have been conducted on this topic since late 1990s. However, bibliometric analysis of these papers has not been reported. ⋯ Anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity is very important, especially for pediatric anesthetists. This study is the first to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the most cited 100 publications on this field. Although there was a gap in the publications about this topic during COVID-19 pandemic, we believe that there will be many more publications on anesthesia-induced neurotoxicity since the mechanism, outcome and possible protection are still unknown.

In-depth studies on the mechanisms of pathogenesis of sepsis and diagnostic biomarkers in the early stages may be the key to developing individualized and effective treatment strategies. This study aimed to identify sepsis-related hub genes and evaluate their diagnostic reliability. The gene expression profiles of GSE4607 and GSE131761 were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus. ⋯ The reliability and consistency of these 4 genes were externally validated. Single-sample gene set enrichment analysis and gene set variation analysis analyses indicated that the 4 hub genes were significantly correlated with the regulation of immunity and metabolism in sepsis. The identified FAM89A, FFAR3, G0S2, and FGF13 genes may help elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying sepsis and drive the introduction of new biomarkers to advance diagnosis and treatment.

This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the risk factors for low levels of subjective well-being (SWB) in the general population of Japan, specifically, the impact of the number of teeth and self-rated mastication. The surveyed population consisted of individuals aged between 40 and 79 years from Yamagata prefecture, Japan. A postal self-administered questionnaire survey of respondents lifestyles, medical history, oral health, and dietary intake, was conducted from 2017 to 2021. ⋯ Individuals with < 20 teeth and poor mastication ability had a 1.3-fold risk for low levels of SWB compared with individuals with ≥ 20 teeth with good mastication ability (adjusted odds ratios = 1.300, 95% confidence intervals = 1.043-1.621, P = .020). There were no differences between individuals with good mastication ability, regardless of the number of remaining teeth. Our study emphasizes not only the importance of having ≥ 20 teeth and good mastication ability for high levels of SWB but also the importance of restoring mastication ability using some form of prosthesis, to facilitate a high level of SWB when the number of remaining teeth is < 20.

Programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) is a crucial negative costimulatory molecule expressed on both tumor and immune cells. It binds to programmed death-1, facilitating tumor escape. Tumor-infiltrating immune cells play a vital role in this process. ⋯ Multivariate analysis revealed that patients with high IPD-L1 and CD8 expression or high TPD-L1 and low CD31 expression experienced significantly better overall survival than patients with other combinations. The findings indicate that patients with high PD-L1 expression in immune cells have a substantially improved prognosis. Additionally, the combination of PD-L1 with CD8 or CD31 expression status can serve as an indicator of prognosis in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma.
