Glioma is the most malignant tumor in the central nervous system with a poor prognosis. The tumor immune microenvironment plays a crucial role in glioma formation and progress. TREM1, as a vital immune regulator, has not been investigated in glioma. ⋯ TREM1 participated in the initiation and progression of glioma by regulating immune cell infiltration and expression of immune checkpoints. TREM1 is an effective prognostic and diagnostic biomarker in glioma. It can be adopted as a novel predictor for clinical prognosis, pathological characteristics, and immune microenvironment in glioma patients.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an acute infectious disease caused by a novel coronavirus. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been proven to have a potential curative effect on COVID-19. This study preliminarily analyzed the existing TCM prescription's key components and action mechanisms for preventing and treating COVID-19 using bioinformatic and experimental methods. ⋯ Further molecular docking revealed that quercetin has a higher affinity for IL6 and IL10 in the TNF signaling pathway associated with COVID-19. In vitro experiments demonstrated that quercetin could effectively reduce the levels of the inflammatory factor IL-6 and increase the anti-inflammatory factor IL-10, alleviating inflammation impact on cells. Our results provide a new understanding of the molecular mechanism of TCM prevention and treatment of COVID-19, which is helpful to the development of new diagnosis and treatment schemes for COVID-19.

Injection-related abscesses are a common complication in clinical practice, but the identification of infected bacteria might be difficult. ⋯ Rapidly growing mycobacteria are rare but important pathogens that should be considered in patients with injection-related abscesses. Early identification and appropriate treatment can result in a favorable prognosis.

Circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) can serve as noninvasive biomarkers for endometriosis, but their diagnostic and prognostic values require investigation. This study evaluated the potential of 6 miRNAs in diagnosing endometriosis and predicting fertility. The study included patients with endometriosis (stages I-IV) and controls admitted to Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital between May 2013 and March 2014. ⋯ Circulating miRNA levels were associated with pelvic adhesions (miR-199a, P < .05), lesion distribution (miR-9*, miR-145*, and miR-141*; all P < .05), and the presence of deep infiltrating endometriosis (miR-199a and miR-122; both P < .001). The expression levels of miR-199a, miR-122, and miR-542-3p decreased with an increasing endometriosis fertility index. The model combining circulating miRNAs (miR-199a, miR-122, miR-145*, and miR-141*) and CA125 is promising for diagnosing endometriosis and its severity. miR-199a, miR-122, and miR-542-3p were associated with the endometriosis fertility index and might be used to predict fertility preoperatively, but these results require confirmation.

Cephalic arch stenosis (CAS) is critical point to maintain functional arteriovenous fistula (AVF) in patients undergoing hemodialysis with brachio-cephalic AVFs. In this study, we aimed to determine the effectiveness of dual outflow (cephalic and basilic veins) as a surgical method to prevent CAS. Between July 2016 and December 2019, 369 patients underwent upper arm AVF creation. ⋯ The primary-assisted patency rates at 12 months were 87.0% for BCAVFs and 93.2% for BCBAVFs, respectively (P = .145). Secondary patency rates at 12 months were 92.2% for BCAVFs and 93.2% for BCBAVFs, respectively (P = .023). Compared to BCAVF, traditional upper arm AVF, upper arm AVF with cephalic and basilic vein dual drainage can be optimal surgical method to preventing CAS.
