This study aims to investigate whether the combination of radiographs and computed tomography (CT) images can be used as an alternative means of magnetic resonance imaging examination or a preliminary screening method before examination, so as to improve the accuracy of determining the degree of posterior ligament complex injury in thoracolumbar fracture patients. From May 2011 to May 2019, the patients with thoracolumbar fracture were collected. A total of 150 patients were enrolled. ⋯ The upper endplate angle and lower endplate angle, the percentage of vertebral height drop, the difference of inter-spinous process distance on CT images and the translation distance were statistically significant between the 2 groups (P < .05). Receiver operating characteristic curve showed that the diagnostic performance was excellent (all area under the curve > 0.7). To sum, the results showed that endplate angle + inter-spinous process distance on CT images combination had relatively high-quality diagnostic value for posterior ligamentous complex injury in thoracolumbar fracture patients.

Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) describes a renal histologic lesion with diverse causes and pathogenicities. Monogenic abnormalities which are associated with impaired function of podocyte could result in FSGS. Most of genetic FSGS do not respond to immunosuppressive agents and often develop end-stage kidney disease. We reported a case of FSGS caused by myosin1e (MYO1E) mutation, alleviated by cyclosporine A (CsA) and low-dose glucocorticoid. ⋯ MYO1E autosomal recessive mutation was a rare FSGS causative mutation that might benefit from CsA treatment. However, the long-term effect of CsA on FSGS caused by this mutation should be investigated in the future.

Emphysematous hepatitis (EH) is a rare and fulminant gas-forming liver infection. Only 3 patients were successfully treated. Diabetes mellitus and a history of digestive system cancer may predispose individuals to EH. Computed tomography (CT) findings support the diagnosis of EH and monitor progress. ⋯ EH generally deteriorates rapidly and eventually leads to death. This case will raise awareness of the rare and severe disease, strengthen diagnostic capacities, and provide advice to treat it.

This study aimed to investigate the clinical value of mesothelin soluble related peptide (SMRP), cancer antigen 125 (CA125), matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7), and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in benign and malignant pleural exudative effusion. A total of 105 adult patients with pleural exudative effusion admitted in our hospital from December 2019 to December 2020 were selected. Patients were divided into the benign group (n = 60) and the malignant group (n = 45) according to their condition. ⋯ There was a moderate positive correlation between SMRP and CA125 and MMP-7 in malignant pleural effusion. The correlation between MMP-7 and MMP-9 was moderately positive. The diagnostic efficacy of SMRP combined with CA125, MMP-7, and MMP-9 in pleural effusion for malignant pleural effusion and BPE are better than single index, which has certain clinical values for the selection of early intervention scheme for BPE patients.

Colorectal cancer is one of the 3 most common cancers worldwide. In this study, a weighted network-based analysis method was proposed to explore the pathological mechanisms and prognostic targets of rectal adenocarcinoma (READ) at the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) methylation level. In this study, we downloaded clinical information and DNA methylation data from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. ⋯ Our study found that key methylation sites played an important role in tumor metastasis and were associated with the prognosis of READ. Mutations and methylation may jointly regulate the transcription and translation of related genes, which in turn affect cancer progression. This may provide some new potential therapeutic targets and thoughts for the prognosis of READ.
