Lascufloxacin hydrochloride (LSFX) is a quinolone antibiotic that inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV of bacteria, it is anticipated to minimize antibiotic resistance in bacteria. It exhibits antibacterial activity against a relatively wide range of bacterial species, including anaerobic bacteria, and its efficacy and safety against community-acquired pneumonia have been shown; however, its efficacy and safety against nursing and healthcare associated pneumonia (NHCAP) have not been verified. ⋯ NHCAP is a common pneumonia in clinical settings and a notable pneumonia whose mortality is high compared to community-acquired pneumonia. The present study showed the efficacy and safety of LSFX against NHCAP, which could lead to a larger number of therapeutic options for NHCAP.

Basal cell carcinoma of the umbilicus associated with sweat gland structures: Two case reports.
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) arising in the umbilicus is relatively rare, and in particular, there have been few reports mentioning peritumoral sweat gland structures histopathologically. We herein, report 2 cases of umbilical BCC with sweat gland structures within and around the tumor. ⋯ We herein report 2 cases of umbilical BCC with sweat glands and ducts. Although whether peri- and/or intra-tumor sweat gland structures are the source of the tumor or arise by transdifferentiation from tumor cells remains unclear, these findings may provide clues to help understand the morphopathogenesis of umbilical BCC in the future.

Chemotherapy for patients with recurrent cancer aims to obtain survival benefits, relieve symptoms, and improve quality of life. We used oral cyclophosphamide and bevacizumab (BEV) combination therapy in recurrent ovarian and peritoneal cancer cases, where standard chemotherapy was infeasible. Subsequently, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of this treatment. ⋯ The median PFS and overall survival from cyclophosphamide and BEV initiation was 5.3 months (range, 0.8-23.5) and 9.2 months (range, 4.8-51.5), respectively. The combination of oral cyclophosphamide and BEV does not have a high response rate, but is well-tolerated and can be used safely in patients who are difficult to treat after second-line chemotherapy. Data from 2 facilities were retrospectively analyzed.

Giant meningioma stemming from the intraventricular zone has been reported to be extremely few. Two cases of supersize (>8 cm) intraventricular meningiomas presenting with cystic lesions and their clinical characteristics were collected in our study. ⋯ Cystic lesions may indicate the histopathologic malignancy of intraventricular meningioma. Transcortical approach through the posterior temporal lobe or the parieto-occipital lobe is an effective technology for giant intraventricular meningiomas.

To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the Capital Bio Mycobacterium real-time polymerase chain reaction assay Capital Bio assay for lymph node (LN) tuberculosis (LNTB), and to further compare the effect of different types of LN specimens on the detection capability of the test. We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of LNTB patients who met the inclusion criteria. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and area under the curve of Capital Bio assay were calculated to evaluate its diagnostic accuracy compared with the final clinical diagnosis as reference standard. ⋯ For the tissue, these values were 59.3%, 100.0%, 100.0%, 33.3%, 0.80, respectively. The Capital Bio assay had good effective for the diagnosis of LNTB. Compared to LN fine-needle aspiration and core needle biopsy specimens and tissue specimens, pus specimens were more suitable for molecular testing and had the best diagnostic efficacy.
