Previous studies have shown that asthma is a risk factor for lung cancer, while the mechanisms involved remain unclear. We attempted to further explore the association between asthma and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) via bioinformatics analysis. We obtained GSE143303 and GSE18842 from the GEO database. ⋯ In addition, the risk score of the 5 hub genes could be used as a tool to assess the TME and immune cell infiltration. The nomogram model constructed by combining the 5 hub genes with clinical features was accurate for LUAD. Five-hub genes enrich our understanding of the potential mechanisms by which asthma contributes to the increased risk of lung cancer.

Circular RNAs (CircRNAs) have been reported to play key roles in the progression of various cancers, including thyroid cancer (TC). Transcription factor 1 (SP1) promotes the development of thyroid cancer. This study aims at investigating the expression level of Circ0005654 in combination with Transcription factor1 (SP1) in patients with TC for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. ⋯ The IHC results showed that the expression level of SP1, β-catenin, and Wnt was higher in cancer tissues than in adjacent tissues; Circ0005654, SP1, Wnt/β-catenin expression levels were associated with tumor diameter, lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and envelope invasion (all P < .05). According to the Circ0005654 expression level in thyroid cancer tissue, the 3-year survival rate of the high expression group was 77.5% and 94.4% in the low expression group with a statistically significant difference; the 3-year survival rate of SP1 positive and negative patients was 78.6% and 100%, respectively, with the data being significantly different. Circ0005654 may serve as a potential biomarker for thyroid cancer diagnosis and may be involved in the development of thyroid cancer.

Non-obese nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by metabolic disorders and related complications. This study aimed to provide an integrated description of clinical, metabolic, and influencing factors for a specific category of patients with non-obese NAFLD. A total of 36 participants with body mass index (BMI) < 28 kg/m2 and visceral adipose tissue < 100 cm2 were classified into 2 groups: the non-obese, non-centrally obese control group (n = 17) and non-obese, non-centrally obese NAFLD group (n = 19). ⋯ NAFLD patients with a BMI < 28 kg/m2 and visceral adipose tissue < 100 cm2 had more apparent IR, higher FPG, and a higher metabolic abnormality rate. IR may be affected by FPG and triglyceride. Even in non-obese and non-centrally obese individuals, BMI should be controlled to avoid NAFLD.

The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of other malignancies (OMs) in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and to identify parameters associated with the occurrence of OMs in addition to CLL. This retrospective cohort study was conducted by examining the records of CLL patients who applied to a tertiary hospital between January 2013 and December 2021. The cases were divided into 2 groups, CLL (n = 107) and CLL + OM (n = 25), according to the presence of additional malignancy. ⋯ Most OMs had been diagnosed before CLL (63.64%) in the no-treatment group, while the majority of OMs were diagnosed after CLL (78.57%) in the treatment group (P = .032). CLL patients with OM had a more advanced CLL stage, and survival was significantly shorter in these patients. In addition, CLL-associated OM appears to occur more frequently in the post-treatment period.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) results from a complex interaction between genes and the environment, and occupational exposures are an underappreciated risk factor. Until now, little research attention has been paid to the potential impact of occupational risk factor exposure on the COPD in China. The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze the role of occupational risk factor exposure on the severity and progression of COPD for exploring new prevention strategies for this disease. ⋯ Our results indicated that occupational risk factor exposure levels were related to the severity of COPD significantly. The incubation period of COPD in the exposure group was significantly shorter than that in the non-exposure group. To prevent worked-related COPD, special attention and control efforts should be taken to reduce the level of occupational risk factors such as organic dust, irritating chemicals, etc in the work environments, especially in the industries of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, manufacturing, and mining.
