The main mechanism of death and the pathological appearance of cases of benzyl alcohol intoxication has not been fully investigated. Autopsy reports of cases of benzyl alcohol intoxication have not been published. ⋯ Present case suggest that multiple pathways of exposure may be associated with more rapid progression in acute benzyl alcohol intoxication, and that early and/or severe involvement of the central nervous system rather than renal dysfunction may be associated with an early death.

Recurrent intussusception is one of the common acute abdominal diseases in infants, which seriously affects the physical and mental health of infants, but its risk factors have not been fully clarified. The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationship between Th2/Th1 cytokine imbalance and recurrent intussusception, so as to provide a theoretical basis for making a more comprehensive treatment strategy for patients with recurrent intussusception. A retrospective study was conducted between July 2012 and September 2022, enrolling patients with intussusception in Children's Hospital of Hebei Province. ⋯ The results showed that the incidence of recurrent intussusception was 18.41% and the Th2/Th1 cytokine imbalance was closely related to the incidence of recurrent intussusception. Th2/Th1 cytokine imbalance is a potential risk factor of recurrent intussusception and more likely to occur in children between the ages of 2 and 3. Future studies are needed to preemptively target the Th2/Th1 cytokine imbalance to formulate a reasonable treatment plan for children with intussusception to avoid recurrence.

This report documents the intracardiac migration of a hook wire in a 47-year-old male patient after computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous hook wire localization of pulmonary ground-glass opacities. ⋯ The present case was unique because the hook wire migrated through the bloodstream from the pulmonary vein to the left atrium, before finally reaching the LV. Based on the patient preoperative CT images, the ground glass opacities were proximal to a 2.5 mm wide vein, which drained into the pulmonary vein. The proximity of the hook wire to a blood vessel was reportedly attributed to an increased risk of hook wire migration through the bloodstream. Hematogenous hook wire migration into the heart can result in fatal complications. Early diagnosis and timely removal of the hook wire are recommended to prevent the worsening of this complication.

Multimorbidity (≥2 chronic illnesses) is a worldwide healthcare challenge. Patients with multimorbidity have a reduced quality of life and higher mortality than healthy patients and use healthcare resources more intensively. This study investigated the prevalence of multimorbidity; examined the effects of multimorbidity on healthcare utilization; healthcare costs of multimorbidity; and compared the associations between the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of older patients undergoing surgery and multimorbidity, the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), the Simple Frailty Questionnaire (FRAIL), and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status classifications. ⋯ Multimorbidity was associated with a significant increase in the healthcare utilization of the number of preoperative visits and a greater need for multiple-department consultations. In addition, multimorbidity resulted in a reduced HRQoL during hospital admission and 3-months postoperatively. In particular, the ASA classification > 2 apparently reduced postoperative HRQoL at day 5, 1-month, and 3-months lower than the ASA classification ≤2.

Marjolin's ulcer in an ischial pressure sore presented with necrotizing soft tissue infection: A case report.
Marjolin's ulcer (MU) is a rare skin malignancy derived from a chronic wound. Pressure ulcer related MU possesses poor prognosis and high metastatic rate, and it is difficult to be differentiated, especially when superimposed infection. ⋯ MU can masquerade as NSTI and one should be alert to its malignant potential. Due to its aggressive nature, limb sacrifice can be considered in circumstances of profound involvement. As for the reconstruction method, pedicled fillet flap provided good wound coverage.
