Vaseline gauze packing for the treatment of acute hemorrhagic rectal ulcer: Two case reports.
Acute hemorrhagic rectal ulcer (AHRU) is a relatively rare condition characterized by sudden onset, painlessness, and massive hematochezia in patients with severe underlying conditions. When AHRU is encountered, they can often be successfully controlled endoscopically, though recurrent bleeding is common and an alternative treatment must be sought if initial endoscopic treatment fails. We report 2 cases of AHRU which were successfully treated with Vaseline gauze packing after the failure of endoscopic hemostasis. ⋯ Based on these cases, we suggest that Vaseline gauze packing may be the alternative treatment for the AHRU which is located near the dentate line when endoscopic hemostasis is difficult or failed. Although further research is needed, Vaseline gauze packing has several potential advantages for the treatment of AHRU, especially in cases involving critically ill elderly patients.

A fetus of partial urorectal septum malformation sequence characterized by complete septate uterus: A case report.
Urorectal septum malformation sequence (URSMS) is an extremely uncommon anomaly characterized by imperforate anus accompanied by multiple genitourinary malformations. Here, we report a case of URSMS identified by the autopsy and classified into partial URSMS. Prenatal diagnosis is challenging for clinicians due to the difficulty of early identification of URSMS and the relative lack of specific features in ultrasound. We intend to share our experiences. ⋯ Individuals with URSMS during the fetal period might be misdiagnosed due to atypical features of URSMS. Once structural abnormalities especially cystic mass of the futuses in the lower abdomen, URSMS should be considered.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a disorder that affects approximately 5% to 10% of pregnant women. Timely and accurate identification of PE and assessment of its severity are crucial. Therefore, it is necessary to develop predictive indicators which are easily measured in routine antenatal examinations to enable the early detection of PE and assess its severity. ⋯ And it is an independent risk factor for the development of sPE. In conclusion, the serum levels of FAR, Cr, D-D and Fib were positively correlated with PE, whereas ALB and Ca were negatively correlated with PE severity, which might be valuable in evaluating the severity of PE. FAR proved to be a feasible diagnostic marker for sPE with sensitivity and specificity comparable to those of ALB and Fib.

A case report: An unusual presentation of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the lacrimal gland.
Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is the most common malignant epithelial tumor of the lacrimal gland with the highest malignant degree. ACC of the lacrimal gland is characterized by symptoms of <1 years duration. We present a 38-year-old male patient who complained of an enlarging mass in the left lacrimal fossa for almost 10 years previous to the diagnosis of ACC. ⋯ The present case demonstrates an unusual progression of ACC of the Lacrimal Gland.

Growing rod (GR) instrumentation and the elongation, derotation, and flexion (EDF) casting technique are 2 alternatives for the treatment of early-onset scoliosis. Our purpose was to investigate the cost of these treatment options. This was a retrospective cohort study of patients with early-onset scoliosis treated at 2 institutions from 2007 to 2014 with either GR instrumentation or EDF casting. ⋯ Hospital charges and collections were similar between the groups (P = .82, P = .42). Physician charges for casting were approximately 18% of that of GRs. Compared to GRs, physician collections were 71% less for EDF casting patients per year.
