To determine the hepatitis C virus (HCV) care cascade among persons who were born during 1945 to 1965 and received outpatient care on or after January 2014 at a large academic healthcare system. Deidentified electronic health record data in an existing research database were analyzed for this study. Laboratory test results for HCV antibody and HCV ribonucleic acid (RNA) indicated seropositivity and confirmatory testing. ⋯ While only 3% were screened for HCV, the seroprevalence was high in the screened sample. Despite the established safety and efficacy of DAAs, only 15% initiated treatment during the study period. To achieve HCV elimination, improved HCV screening and linkage to HCV care and DAA treatment are needed.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA methylation, as a reversible epigenetic modification of mammalian mRNA, holds a critical role in multiple biological processes. m6A modification in Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) has increasingly attracted more attention in recent years, especially in diabetics, with or without metabolic syndrome. We investigated via m6A-sequencing and RNA-sequencing the differentially expressed m6A modification lncRNAs by high glucose and TNF-α induced endothelial cell dysfunction in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Additionally, gene ontology and kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes analyses were performed to analyze the biological functions and pathways for the target of mRNAs. ⋯ This systematic review also does not involve endangering participant rights. Ethical approval will not be required. The results may be published in a peer-reviewed journal or disseminated at relevant conferences.

We performed this cohort study to assess the prognostic value of right ventricular size, including diameter, area, and volume, in short-term mortality of acute pulmonary embolism (APE) based on 256-slice computed tomography compared with D-dimer, creatine kinase muscle and brain isoenzyme, and Wells scores. A total of 225 patients with APE, who were followed up for 30 days were enrolled in this cohort study. Clinical data, laboratory indices (creatine kinase, creatine kinase muscle and brain isoenzyme, and D-dimer), and Wells scores were collected. ⋯ According to the receiver operating characteristic curve, the cutoff point of RVA/LVA-ax was 1.68 with a sensitivity of 46.7% and specificity of 84.8%. The measurement of ventricular size in the short-axis plane is more convenient and reliable than that in the 4-chamber cardiac plane. RVA/LVA-ax is an independent predictor of early death from APE, and when RVA/LVA-ax > 1.68, the risk of early death from APE increases.

The prevention of pneumonia in bedridden older patients is important, and its recurrence in these patients is a relevant issue. Patients who are bedridden and inactive, and have dysphagia are considered to be at risk for pneumonia. Efforts to reduce the bedridden state and low activity may be necessary to reduce the risk of developing pneumonia in bedridden older patients. ⋯ For bedridden older patients, sitting in a wheelchair is a very low-impact physical activity, similar to that in normal people. The VT of bedridden older patients was maximal in the Fowler position, and the ventilatory volume did not increase with an increasing reclining angle, unlike that in normal people. These findings suggest that appropriate reclining postures in clinical situations can promote an increase in the ventilatory rate in bedridden older patients.

Given that there are controversial findings regarding vessel density in amblyopia, we quantified retinal microcirculation using optical coherence tomography angiography and compared it between hyperopic ametropic amblyopia eyes and age-matched control eyes. This case-control study was conducted from March 2021 to March 2022 at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanchang University, Nanchang, China. Both groups included 72 eyes. ⋯ The central macular thicknesses of hyperopia ametropic amblyopia and control eyes were 240.04 ± 20.11 and 235.08 ± 24.41 µm, respectively. Foveal avascular zone perimeter and circularity (P < .043 and P = .001) significantly differed between the 2 groups. Hyperopia ametropic amblyopia eyes showed lower appreciably in vessel and perfusion densities, which could be one of the major pathophysiological mechanisms of hyperopia ametropic amblyopia and provide a new direction for the diagnosis and treatment of amblyopia.
