This study aim was to compare the safety and efficacy of combined transjugular/percutaneous intrahepatic portosystemic shunts (cTIPS) and transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) in cirrhotic patients with cavernous transformation of the portal vein (CTPV) after conventional transjugular approach TIPS failure. Cirrhotic patients who were diagnosed as CTPV and treated by cTIPS or TIPS between July 2012 and April 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients' characteristics and clinical data were recorded. ⋯ The hospitalization days increased significantly in the cTIPS group compared with TIPS group (P = .0131). However, the complication rate, patency rates and survival rates were similar between the 2 groups. In conclusion, cTIPS appeared to be safe and effective in cirrhotic patients with CTPV after conventional transjugular approach TIPS failure.

In this retrospective study we compared magnet resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) each combined with identical 2-deoxy-2-[18F] fluoro-D-glucose or 2-[18F] F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) data in patients with recurrent differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). In total 42 patients with DTC were examined. All patients underwent FDG PET/MRI and CT, the latter originating from one of the following examinations: I-131 single photon emission computed tomography/CT (32/42), low dose FDG PET/CT (5/42) or diagnostic FDG PET/CT (5/42). ⋯ In patients with recurrent DTC, PET/MRI showed superiority compared to PET/CT in evaluation of the neck region. PET/MRI was inferior to PET/CT in evaluation of the lung. PET/MRI in combination with a low dose CT of the lung may thus represent the ideal staging tool in patients with recurrent DTC.

To retrospectively investigate the imaging features and the related influencing factors of peripheral interstitial lung abnormalities (PILA) that caused "normal aging" by low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in an nonsmoking, asymptomatic Chinese urban cohort. The clinical data of 733 subjects who underwent chest LDCT were retrospectively collected. The computed tomography (CT) signs of PILA (interlobular septal thickening [ILST], intralobular interstitial thickening [ILIT], ground-glass opacity [GGO], reticular shadow [RS], subpleural line [SL]) were evaluated at 6 levels and statistically analyzed. ⋯ LDCT can be used as a noninvasive method to evaluate the PILA. PILA were mainly affected by age, while sex, BMI, BP, and laboratory biochemistry parameters had little effect on PILA. PILA observed before the age of 40 years should be considered an abnormal finding, whereas it is common in individuals over 70.

Endotracheal intubation can be associated with certain complications in certain group of patients. However, the relationship between endotracheal intubation and postoperative complications is unclear in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PHTN). This study evaluated the relationship between endotracheal intubation and postoperative complications in non-cardiothoracic and non-obstetric surgery patients with PHTN. ⋯ Statistical analysis showed no interaction between the variables of tracheal intubation and 30-day postoperative complications. In this study, we found that tracheal intubation anesthesia is associated with increased risk of 30-day postoperative complications in PHTN patients undergoing non-cardiothoracic, non-obstetric surgery. Further studies are needed to confirm our findings.

It is critically important for stakeholders with distinct foci of attention on healthcare to understand patient evolution in the presence of an established diagnosis or with a suspected diagnosis of various diseases, specially considering death as an outcome. To study the long-term mortality of patients at a cardiovascular referral hospital. Deterministic binding (selection of pairs of registers from the hospital electronic health records and the mortality records of São Paulo state) from 2002 to 2017 was performed. ⋯ In this sample, there was an association between admission diagnoses and underlying causes of death, such as neoplasms, cardiovascular diseases, and congenital heart malformations. Additionally, patients who underwent a cardiac intervention had a smaller less mortality rate than those who were not operated on. There were also differences in cardiovascular mortality between distinct treatment units of the hospital ((Emergency Unit, Outpatient Unit, Hospital Admissions, Diagnostic Services).
