Polycythemia vera (PV) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm which is characterized by excessive production of erythrocytes as well as myeloid and megakaryocytic proliferation. PV associated with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) has rarely been reported in the literature. The long-term renal prognosis of these patients is unknown. ⋯ The results of this study showed that PV associated with IgAN mainly occurs in males and is often accompanied by hematuria and mild-to-moderate renal insufficiency. The long-term prognosis was good for most patients, and few progressed relatively quickly to end stage renal disease.

The accuracy of percutaneous pedicle screw (PSS) placement in the lateral decubitus position has seldom been reported. This study aimed to retrospectively compare the accuracy of PPS placement with 3-dimensional (3D) fluoroscopy-based navigation in 2 cohorts of patients who underwent surgery in the lateral decubitus or prone positions at our single institute. A total of 265 consecutive patients underwent spinal surgery with PPS from T1 (thoracic 1) to S (sacrum) under the 3D fluoroscopy-based navigation system at our institute. ⋯ Twenty-one of 453 (4.64%) PPSs in Group L deviation and 55 of 1363 (4.04%) PPSs in Group P had deviated PPS, but with not significant difference (P = .580). In Group L, although the PPS deviation rate was not significantly different between the upside and downside PPS, the downside PPS significantly deviated toward the lateral side compared with the upside PPS. The safety and efficacy of PPS insertion in the lateral decubitus position were similar to those in the conventional prone position.

The effect of various metastases patterns on the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (AD) remains unknown. The purpose of our retrospective study is to determine whether various metastases patterns have a prognostic impact on patients with organ metastatic lung AD. Patient data was extracted from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. ⋯ Brain is the most common single metastasis site of lung AD. Compared with the other 3 metastatic sites, patients with lung metastasis had better survival results. Deeper knowledge of metastatic patterns will help doctors to better understand the prognosis and formulate more appropriate treatment plans.

Vestibular schwannomas are the most common tumors of the cerebellopontine angle, but their pathogenesis is still unclear. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanisms and potential therapeutic target biomarkers in vestibular schwannoma. Two datasets (GSE141801 and GSE54934) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. ⋯ Eight genes from coexpression modules were identified as hub genes, that is, CCND1, CAV1, GLI1, SOX9, LY86, TLR3, TREM2, and C3AR1, which might be potential therapeutic targets for VS. We also found that there were distinct differences in the infiltration levels of immune cells between VSs and normal control nerves. Overall, our findings may be useful for investigating the mechanisms underlying VS and provide noteworthy directions for future research.

To explore the value of artificial intelligence combined with musculoskeletal ultrasound in the differential diagnosis of pain rehabilitation of scapulohumeral periarthritis. A total of 165 patients with periarthritis of the shoulder, who were admitted to our hospital from January 2020 to January 2022, were selected. Konica SONIMAGE HS1 PLUS color Doppler ultrasound diagnostic instrument was used to detect muscles and bones of patients with scapulohumeral periarthritis. ⋯ The performance of the proposed intelligent auscultation algorithm was further examined in a clinical setting, in which we used 165 clinical musculoskeletal ultrasound samples (including 81 positive and 84 negative samples) as a test set. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were 0.833, 0.872, and 0.801, respectively. Musculoskeletal ultrasound combined with artificial intelligence algorithm is a new diagnostic and staging tool for scapulohumeral periarthritis.
