Adequate health literacy is necessary for individuals as it enables them to readily acquire information, process it, and apply it to health-related decisions. Various factors including geographical area will determine the disparity in health literacy status. Communities living in protected areas have limited health literacy and health status owing to a lack of access to infrastructure and medical facilities. Existing studies have discussed health literacy among various populations disproportionately affected by certain diseases. However, research remains underdeveloped, and the causal factors are largely untested. This research aims to better understand how population living conditions especially those who are living in protected areas are affected and exposed to limited health literacy. ⋯ Meta-analysis of low-to-high health literacy status will benefit the development of policy recommendations for protected areas.

Myositis ossificans circumscripta (MOC) is a rare disorder that causes heterotopic bone formation in soft tissues. It usually occurs after trauma and affects large muscles of the extremities. MOC of the pectineus muscle is extremely rare and has not been reported to be treated surgically. ⋯ MOC of the pectineus muscle is a rare condition that can cause severe hip dysfunction. Surgical resection combined with radiation and anti-inflammatory drugs can be an effective treatment option for patients who do not respond to conservative management.

Chronic pain, fatigue and insomnia are classic symptoms of fibromyalgia (FM) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and seriously affect quality of life. Nutrition and chronobiology are often overlooked in multicomponent approach despite their potential. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary group intervention based on nutrition, chronobiology, and physical exercise in the improvement of lifestyle and quality of life in FM and CFS. ⋯ It expected that the intervention will improve the patients' quality of life, fatigue, pain and insomnia, as well as food and physical exercise habits, providing effectiveness evidence of a new therapy in addressing these syndromes in Primary Heath Care. Improvements in the quality of life will have a positive socioeconomic impact by reducing health expenditure on recurrent medical consultation, medication, complementary medical tests, etc and favor the maintenance of an active working life and productivity.

We investigated the ability of echo-planar imaging with L1-regularized iterative sensitivity encoding-based diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to improve the image quality and reduce the scanning time in prostate magnetic resonance imaging. We retrospectively analyzed 109 cases of prostate magnetic resonance imaging. We compared variables in the quantitative and qualitative assessments among 3 imaging groups: conventional parallel imaging-based DWI (PI-DWI) with an acquisition time of 3 minutes 15 seconds; echo-planar imaging with L1-regularized iterative sensitivity encoding-based DWI (L1-DWI) with a normal acquisition time (L1-DWINEX12) of 3 minutes 15 seconds; and L1-DWI with a half acquisition time (L1-DWINEX6) of 1 minute 45 seconds. ⋯ In the qualitative analysis, the image quality score for L1-DWINEX12 was significantly higher than those of PI-DWI and L1-DWINEX6. A non-inferiority assessment demonstrated that L1-DWINEX6 was non-inferior to PI-DWI in terms of both quantitative CNR-DWI and qualitative grading of image quality with a <20% inferior margin. L1-DWI successfully demonstrated a reduced scanning time while maintaining good image quality.

This study aimed to compare the accuracy and reliability of Alvarado Score (AS) and Appendicitis Inflammatory Response Score (AIRS) in pregnant women undergoing surgery for acute appendicitis (AA). The files of 53 pregnant women with a diagnosis of AA who underwent surgery in our clinic between February 2014 and December 2018 were examined retrospectively. The patients were divided into 3 groups as follows: first trimester between 0 and 14 weeks, second trimester between 15 and 28 weeks, and third trimester between 29 and 42 weeks. ⋯ The AIRS was ≥ 9 in 9 patients and the AS was ≥ 7 in 19 of the 23 patients in the 1st trimester, while the AIRS was ≥ 9 in 11 patients and the AS was ≥ 7 in 19 of the 25 patients in the 2nd trimester. However, in the 3rd trimester, the AIRS was ≥ 9 in 2 patients and AS was ≥ 7 in 4 of the 5 patients. In conclusion, when the data obtained from the present study were evaluated, it was determined that both AS and AIRS are effective methods for diagnosing AA in pregnant women.
