Patients with Trousseau syndrome, a common complication of advanced cancer, typically have poor survival. For that reason, there is a need to determine the effectiveness of rehabilitation treatment and develop a comprehensive treatment strategy earlier than that in the general stroke population. We investigated the relationship between physical function and its outcome 1 month after the start of intensive rehabilitation treatment in patients with Trousseau syndrome, to obtain insights for determining the indications for intensive rehabilitation in these patients. ⋯ Intensive rehabilitation therapy may be indicated for patients with Trousseau syndrome who are expected to improve physical function after approximately 1 month of rehabilitation. Palliative care should be considered if recovery is inadequate.

The objective was to evaluate the levels of monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in patients with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM). This retrospective case series study comprised of participants with iERM and participants with cataract. The values of MLR, NLR, PLR and from participants' peripheral blood were assessed among groups. ⋯ The PLR was > 95.89, with a sensitivity and specificity of 86.3% and 41.0%, respectively. The findings of this study suggest that systemic inflammation may be associated with iERM. IERM patients may be prone to have high MLR, NLR, and PLR values.

Heart failure (HF) and osteoarthritis (OA) are medical conditions that can significantly impact daily activities. Evidence has shown that HF and OA may share some pathogenic mechanisms. However, the underlying genomic mechanisms remain unclear. ⋯ SFRP4 was correlated with monocyte, CD8 + T, γδ T, CD4 + naïve, nTreg, CD8 + naïve and MAIT. MXRA5 was correlated with macrophage, CD8 + T, nTreg and CD8 + naïve. FAP, THY1, MXRA5, and SFRP4 may be diagnostic biomarkers for both HF and OA, and their correlation with immune cell infiltrations suggests shared immune pathogenesis.

To study the outcomes of bi-vertebral transpedicular wedge osteotomy in correcting severe kyphotic deformity in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). This retrospective study focused on all the patients who underwent thoracic and lumbar bi-vertebra transpedicular wedge osteotomy with pedicle screw internal fixation to treat their severe thoracolumbar kyphotic deformity of AS in our hospital from January 2014 to January 2020. The perioperative and operative data of each patient were collected and analyzed. ⋯ The average postoperative correction of kyphosis reached 60.8o at 1 week after the surgery, which is significantly improved from preoperative presentation (P < .05), and stayed no significant change over the time during longer period of follow-ups (12-24 months) with the overall correction rate of 72.2%. Moreover, the postoperative changes in thoracic kyphosis (TK) angle, thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK) angle, lumbar lordosis (LL) angle, maxilla-brow angle, as well as C2SVA and C7SVA sagittal balance were also significant, all of which enabled the patients to walk in upright position and sleep in the supine position with the improvements in other clinical symptoms. Bi-vertebral transpedicular wedge osteotomy of thoracic and lumbar vertebrae is a safe and effective method to restore the physiological curvature of the sagittal position of the spine and correct severe ankylosing deformity.

Most soft-tissue lesions in the hand and wrist have a benign etiology, and malignant tumors, such as soft-tissue sarcomas, are rare. Mimickers of soft tissue tumors in the hand and wrist are more common than true neoplastic lesions; however, soft tissue pseudotumors that mimic malignancy are very rare. ⋯ Although the imaging approach for pseudotumorous lesions is similar to that for true soft tissue tumors, the management of these lesions is different. Biopsies should only be performed when the diagnosis is unclear.
