Noninfectious myositis (NIM) of the masticatory muscles is uncommon local myalgia disorder persisted by a centrally-mediated neurogenic mechanism. Due to the rarity of this condition and the lack of appropriate data regarding it, diagnosing this pathology when it affects the temporal muscle (TM) is challenging. ⋯ A thorough clinical examination and MR imaging including the axial T2-weighted view are required for accurate diagnosis and effective management of NIM of the TM.

Preoperative planning with computed tomography (CT)-based 3-dimensiona (3D) templating has been achieved precise placement of hip components. This study investigated the role of the software (3-dimensional preoperative planning for primary total hip arthroplasty [THA] based on artificial intelligence technology, artificial intelligence hip [AIHIP]) for surgeons with different experience levels in primary THA. In this retrospective cohort study, we included patients, who had undergone THA with the help of the AIHIP, and matched to patients, who had undergone THA without the help of the AIHIP, by age and the doctor who operated on them. ⋯ The stem sizes of 95% were accurately estimated to be within 1 stem size, and 97% of the cup size estimates were accurate to within 1 cup size in senior surgeon group with AIHIP. A total of 87% stem sizes were accurately estimated to be within 1 stem size, and 85% cup sizes were accurate to within 1 cup size in junior surgeon group with AIHIP. In conclusion, our study suggests that an AI-based preoperative 3D planning system for THA is a valuable adjunctive tool for junior doctor and should routinely be performed preoperatively.

Pediatric patients undergoing diagnostic tests in the pediatric emergency room are frequently sedated. Although efforts are made to prevent adverse events, no sedation protocol has specified the optimal regimen, dosage, and interval of medication to prevent adverse events. This study analyzed the safety and efficacy of sequential pediatric sedation protocols for pediatric patients undergoing diagnostic tests in the pediatric emergency room of a single tertiary medical center. ⋯ Of the 289 included patients, 20 (6.9%) experienced adverse events, none serious, and nine (3.1%) failed to reach the depth of sedation required to complete the test. The regimen (P = .622) and dosage (P = .777) of the sedatives were unrelated to the occurrence of adverse events when sedation was performed according to protocol. The sedation protocol used in these patients, consisting of sequential administration of minimum dosages, achieved a sufficient depth of sedation with relatively few adverse events, indicating that this protocol can be used safely and effectively for painless sedation in pediatric patients undergoing diagnostic testing.

Correction of calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone disorders is the standard of treatment in nondialysis patients with chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD). However, the side effects and adverse reactions are still the main problems. Moreover, the lack of protection of kidney function in the treatment dramatically affects patients' health. Although Traditional Chinese Medicine, specifically tonifying kidney and strengthen bone (TKSB) therapy, is wildly applied to patients with CKD-MBD in China, the evidence of TKSB therapy in the treatment of CKD-MBD is limited. Thus, we conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TKSB therapy combined with Western medicine (WM) for nondialysis patients with CKD-MBD. ⋯ The systematic review found that TKSB therapy combined with WM has a positive effect on improving renal function and correcting bone metabolism disorder in nondialysis patients with CKD-MBD, which shows that Traditional Chinese Medicine is effective and safe in treating CKD-MBD. However, more high-quality, large-sample, multicenter clinical trials should be conducted to assess the safety and efficacy of TKSB therapy in treating nondialysis patients with CKD-MBD.Systematic review registration: INPLASY2020120086.

Acupuncture is effective in the treatment of postprandial distress syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Traditional Chinese medicine advocates the use of acupuncture for the treatment of postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) in people with Functional dyspepsia, but large clinical trials of acupuncture have produced controversial results. This study aims to confirm the clinical significance of acupuncture in the treatment of PDS . ⋯ This study analyzed the effects of acupuncture on PDS from 5 aspects: overall therapeutic rate, SID, HADS, NDI, and side effects, overall therapeutic rate as primary outcome measure. Statistical analysis results showed that acupuncture has a significant effect on the treatment of PDS. In conclusion, it is an effective clinical treatment method. Also, the potential bias in the included studies, high-quality studies are needed to further confirm the possible side effects of acupuncture in treatment.
