Meta Analysis
eNOS polymorphisms on male infertility: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis.
This meta-analysis was performed to examine the association of 3 endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene polymorphisms with male infertility. ⋯ The eNOS rs2070744 polymorphism and rs1799983 are associated with the risk of male infertility, and rs61722009 might be a risk factor for Asians.

Review Case Reports
Adenomyoma of the ampulla of Vater mimicking malignancy: A case report and literature review.
Adenomyoma is a rare reactive, hamartomatous benign tumor-like lesion. Although adenomyoma can occur anywhere in the gastrointestinal tract, including the gallbladder, stomach, duodenum, and jejunum, it is very rarely observed in the extrahepatic bile duct and ampulla of Vater (AOV). The preoperative accurate diagnosis of adenomyoma of the Vaterian system, including the AOV and common bile duct, is significant to appropriate patient management. However, discriminating between benign and malignancy is highly challenging. Patients are frequently mistaken as having periampullary malignancy, thereby leading to unnecessary extensive surgical resection with a high risk of complications. ⋯ Although adenomyoma is very rare, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of mass-like lesions of the AOV to avoid unnecessary surgeries.

Health officials need current knowledge of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and related risk factors to prioritize prevention and control measures due to lifestyle changes, population structure, and the high incidence of diabetes in Saudi Arabia. The present systematic review aims to estimate the current pooled prevalence of T2DM and related risk factors among the general adult population in Saudi Arabia between 2016 and 2022. ⋯ The evidence from this review provided alarming and highlighted points about the prevalence of T2DM between 2016 and 2022, but there was high heterogeneity between the studies. Individuals aged 40 or older had a high risk of T2DM among the general adult population in Saudi Arabia.

To investigate the correlation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α) protein expression with clinicopathologic characteristics in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) through a meta-analysis. ⋯ The high expression of HIF-1α and HIF-2α proteins is closely related to some clinicopathological parameters of PTC, and can provide potential biological indicators for the diagnosis and prognosis of PTC.

Interleukin-4 expression is increased in patients with tuberculosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is an important cytokine in the Th2 differentiation of CD4+ T cells, which modulates immune responses and participates in host defense against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The present study aimed to evaluate the significance of IL-4 concentration in patients with tuberculosis. Data from this study will be helpful in understanding the immunological mechanisms of tuberculosis and in clinical practice. ⋯ The present meta-analysis showed that serum IL-4 varied in healthy individuals and patients with TB. Patients with active TB may also exhibit higher IL-4 concentrations.
