Interleukin-4 expression is increased in patients with tuberculosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is an important cytokine in the Th2 differentiation of CD4+ T cells, which modulates immune responses and participates in host defense against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The present study aimed to evaluate the significance of IL-4 concentration in patients with tuberculosis. Data from this study will be helpful in understanding the immunological mechanisms of tuberculosis and in clinical practice. ⋯ The present meta-analysis showed that serum IL-4 varied in healthy individuals and patients with TB. Patients with active TB may also exhibit higher IL-4 concentrations.

Advances in the beneficial effects of nutrition on stroke-related Sarcopenia: A narrative review.
Stroke is one of the most common causes of disability in adults. Sarcopenia is a syndrome characterized by progressive systemic muscle loss and functional decline. The decrease in skeletal muscle mass and muscle function throughout the body after stroke cannot be explained by neurological motor disorders due to brain injury alone, it is considered to be a secondary sarcopenia known as stroke-related sarcopenia. ⋯ At present, the main indicators used to assess malnutrition in patients with stroke-related sarcopenia include temporalis muscle thickness, calf circumference, phase angle, geriatric nutritional risk index and mini-nutritional assessment short-form, etc. Currently, there is no particularly effective method to curb its progression, but supplementation with essential amino acids, whey protein combined with vitamin D, high energy diet, avoiding Polypharmacy, as well as increasing physical activity level and reducing sedentary lifestyle may improve the malnutrition status of stroke patients, and increase the muscle mass and skeletal muscle index, further delay or even prevent the development of stroke-related sarcopenia. This article reviews the latest research progress on the characteristics, epidemiology, pathogenesis and the role of nutrition in stroke-related sarcopenia, so as to provide reference for the clinical treatment and rehabilitation of stroke-related sarcopenia.

Delirium is a very common sick syndrome in patients receiving mechanical ventilatory support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Music therapy is a promising non-pharmacological intervention. However, its effect on the duration, incidence and severity of delirium is unknown. So we will perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of music therapy on delirium in patients receiving mechanical ventilatory support in the ICU. ⋯ This study will provide evidence-based medical evidence for music therapy to control delirium in patients receiving mechanical ventilatory support in the ICU.

Safety and effectiveness for oral intake of carbohydrate-rich drink at preoperative 2 hours before painless colonoscopy.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and optimal dose of oral intake of carbohydrate-rich drinks 2 hours before painless colonoscopy. All patients receiving painless colonoscopy were randomly divided into 3 groups: control group (no carbohydrate-rich drink, n = 33), low-dose group (5 mL/kg carbohydrate-rich drink, n = 30), and high-dose group (8 mL/kg carbohydrate-rich drink, n = 30). Use of vasoactive drugs, the visual analog scale including thirst and hunger, degree of satisfaction, the time required for Modified Post Anesthetic Discharge Scoring System scale, first urination time, electrolyte level (sodium, potassium, and calcium), and blood glucose level were also determined. ⋯ The degree of satisfaction in low- and high-dose groups was significantly higher than that in the control group (both P < .001). In conclusion, it is feasible and safe to deliver an oral intake of 5 mL/kg carbohydrate-rich drink 2 hours before painless colonoscopy. The comfort level and degree of satisfaction of patients can be further improved.

Clinical trial of manual therapy in the treatment of chondromalacia patellae.
Chondromalacia patellae (CP) is a common and main cause of knee pain, the prevalence of the disease in the general population is as high as 36.2%, especially in middle-aged patients aged between 30 and 40 years (up to 50%). The use of manual therapy (MT) to dredge the meridians and muscles around the knee joint and stimulate the relevant acupoints can play vital roles in relieving pain and improving function. The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness, safety and further comprehensively, completely and multi-dimensionally explain the mechanism and treatment advantages of MT for CP. ⋯ This study will precisely evaluate the effectiveness and safety of MT in the treatment of CP. The results of this experiment will provide more reliable clinical basis for the selection of MT for patients with CP.
