Hypoglycemia may cause diverse neurological manifestations, ranging from focal neurological deficits to irreversible coma. Severe and persistent hypoglycemia can lead to hypoglycemic encephalopathy (HE). Imaging findings of HE at different stages of 18F-FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) have rarely been reported. Herein, we describe a case of HE occurring in the medial frontal cortex, cerebellar cortex, and dentate nucleus using 18F-FDG PET/CT images from different periods. 18F-FDG PET/CT has a high value in displaying the lesion range and indicating the prognosis. ⋯ HE lesions with a high metabolic status may be related to a metabolic compensation mechanism in response to gray matter loss. Some of the more severely damaged cells eventually die even after the blood sugar levels return to normal. Less damaged nerve cells can be recovered. 18F-FDG PET/CT has high value in indicating the lesion range and prognosis of HE.

Prophylactic uterine artery embolization during cesarean delivery for management of hemorrhage in complete placenta previa: An observational study.
Complete placenta previa is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in pregnant women and fetuses. This study aimed to evaluate whether prophylactic uterine artery embolization (PUAE) could reduce bleeding in patients with complete placenta previa. We retrospectively analyzed patients with complete placenta previa admitted to Taixing People's Hospital for elective cesarean delivery between January 2019 and December 2020. ⋯ However, the intraoperative blood loss, hemoglobin before and after operation, transfusion volume in the PUAE group was significantly lower than the control. There was no case of hysterectomy or major maternal complications in both groups. PUAE during cesarean may be an effective and safe strategy to reduce intraoperative blood loss and transfusion volume for patients with complete placenta previa.

It has been shown the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) 677TT (rs 1801133) genotype predicts histopathological alterations in the incisura of patients with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). MTHFR is a crucial enzyme in fatty acid (FA) metabolism. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of FA supplementation in CAG patients without Helicobacter pylori infection and the MTHFR C677T (rs 1801133) genotype as a potential CAG predictor. ⋯ The treatment of CAG patients with 5 mg of FA supplements daily for 6 months improved their gastric atrophy status, especially for the Operative Link on Gastritis/Intestinal Metaplasia assessment stages I/II. Moreover, our study is the first to reveal that patients with the MTHFR 677TT genotype require more timely and effective FA treatment than those with the CC/CT genotype.

In patients with acute onset dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) an improvement of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) can occur as an effect of complex therapy. The aim of the study was to evaluate a pharmacotherapeutic impact on LVEF recovery in newly diagnosed DCM heart failure (HF) patients. A total of 2436 patients hospitalized due to acute decompensated HF were retrospectively analyzed. ⋯ Despite optimal therapy, significant LVEF improvement is observed only in the half of the patients with newly diagnosed DCM with HF with reduced EF. Prescription of higher doses of loop diuretics may have positive effect on the reduction of symptoms in newly diagnosed DCM HF patients. Lack of other risk factors such as arterial hypertension may increase the chance of LVEF recovery.

Postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) is commonly used to treat patients with resected stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but its effectiveness remains uncertain. This retrospective cohort study aimed to investigate the impact of PORT on overall survival (OS) and evaluate its heterogeneity among subgroups of patients. ⋯ In patients with resected stage III NSCLC, PORT may not be beneficial for all patients. However, it may improve survival time in certain patient subgroups, such as those with stage IIIA/N2, stage IIIB, squamous cell carcinoma, tumor grade III to IV, or LNR > 1/3. These findings provide important information for clinical decision-making and future research regarding the use of PORT in patients with resected stage III NSCLC.
