Periodontitis is increasingly associated with heart failure, and the goal of this study was to develop and validate a prediction model based on machine learning algorithms for the risk of heart failure in middle-aged and elderly participants with periodontitis. We analyzed data from a total of 2876 participants with a history of periodontitis from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2009 to 2014, with a training set of 1980 subjects with periodontitis from the NHANES 2009 to 2012 and an external validation set of 896 subjects from the NHANES 2013 to 2014. The independent risk factors for heart failure were identified using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. ⋯ K-nearest neighbor model got the best prediction performance across all models. Out of 6 machine learning models, the K-nearest neighbor algorithm model performed the best. The prediction model offers early, individualized diagnosis and treatment plans and assists in identifying the risk of heart failure occurrence in middle-aged and elderly patients with periodontitis.

Despite the success of total knee arthroplasty (TKA), current implant designs could not consistently restore the physiological knee kinematics, especially in cruciate-retaining (CR) implants. This study aimed to investigate the short-term clinical outcomes, particularly patient satisfaction, of primary TKA employing a new-type kinematic retaining (KR) implant. We analyzed 149 cases applied the KR implant at our institutions during June 2017 to May 2019. ⋯ In addition, there has been no case of obvious complications in both groups during and after surgeries. The results of the present study suggest that this novel KR prosthesis can reproduce physiological knee kinematics, recover its functions, and contribute to pain relief after TKA. TKA procedure using the KR implant should be a good surgical option to improve postoperative outcomes.

Although the classical surgical treatment of adhesive ileus is performed using the open method, laparoscopic surgery has recently been performed in some centers. This study aimed to discuss the feasibility and role of laparoscopic surgery in the treatment of adhesive small bowel obstruction. In this retrospective study, the data of 830 patients who were operated for ileus in Başkent University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara Hospital, Department of General Surgery between January 2011 and September 2022 were analyzed. ⋯ There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of postoperative ileus, readmission, and reoperation. Laparoscopic surgery can be safely performed for the treatment of selected patients with adhesive small bowel obstruction. In addition, it is advantageous in terms of postoperative recovery.

G2 and S phase-expressed-1 (GTSE1) has been reported to be associated with poor prognosis in many cancer types. However, the knowledge of GTSE1 across 33 cancer types remains scarce, and the mechanisms by which GTSE1 promotes cancer development remain incompletely understood. R language and TIMER2.0 were used to analyze the clinical relevance of GTSE1 across > 10,000 subjects representing 33 cancer types based on the cancer genome atlas databases. ⋯ Additionally, GTSE1 also positively correlates with tumor purity and tumor infiltration of immune-suppressive myeloid-derived suppressor cells. Consistently, high expression of GTSE1 is associated with poor patient survival in many cancer types. Conclusion: Our study provides new insights into the diagnostic and prognostic role of GTSE1 in cancers and suggests therapeutic approaches for GTSE1-overexpressing cancers by targeting DNA repair response, and the tumor immune microenvironment.
