Macrophages in the synovium, as immune cells, can be polarized into different phenotypes to play an anti-inflammatory role in the treatment of osteoarthritis. In this study, bibliometric methods were used to search the relevant literature to find valuable research directions for researchers and provide new targets for osteoarthritis prevention and early treatment. ⋯ The findings from the global trend analysis indicate that research on macrophages in the treatment of osteoarthritis is gradually deepening, and the number of studies is increasing. Exosomes may become a research trend and hotspot in the future.

Observational study of effects of pharyngeal stimulation by carbonated solution on repetitive voluntary swallowing in humans.
In this study, we conducted observational study to examine the effects of pharyngeal stimulation by a bolus of carbonated solution on repetitive voluntary swallowing in humans. Twelve healthy participants had a fine silicone tube inserted into their pharyngeal region, through which various solutions were slowly infused (0.2 mL/minute) to stimulate the pharyngeal mucosa without activating mechanoreceptors. The solutions included 0.3M NaCl (NaCl), carbonated 0.3M NaCl (NaCl + CA), 0.3M NaCl with acetic acid, distilled water, and carbonated distilled water. ⋯ Thus, stimulation with NaCl + CA facilitated swallowing by reducing SI. Furthermore, the facilitative effects of SI were more pronounced in participants who had difficulty with repetitive voluntary swallowing. The sensation induced by carbonated solution may enhance the ability for repetitive voluntary swallowing, making it a potentially useful approach for rehabilitating patients with dysphagia.

Efficacy and safety of human gut-derived multi-strain probiotics in patients with irritable bowel syndrome: A prospective open-label observation study.
This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of human gut-derived multi-strain probiotics in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This was an open-label, prospective, observational study. Patients with IBS were administered human gut-derived multi-strain probiotics for 4 weeks. ⋯ Overall improvement rates in the IBS-SSS1 subscore were observed in 29.5% and 61.4% of patients at 2 and 4 weeks, respectively (P < .001). Primary and secondary outcomes were higher at 4 weeks (total IBS-SSS score, 63.6%; IBS-QOL score, 63.6%; IBS-SSS1 subscore, 61.4%) than the estimated responder rate (55%). Human gut-derived multi-strain probiotics have the potential to become an effective and safe treatment option for IBS patients.

The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of photo rejuvenation combined with tranexamic acid and hydroquinone cream in the treatment of complex facial pigmentation. A total of 108 patients with complex facial pigmentation between October 2019 and October 2021 were included in this retrospective study and divided into 2 groups according to the treatment that they received, with 54 cases in each group. The control group received treatment with tranexamic acid and hydroquinone cream. ⋯ Before treatment, there was no significant difference in the skin elasticity and skin water content between the observation group and control group (P > .05). After treatment, the skin elasticity and skin water content were significantly higher than that in the control group (P < .05). Photo rejuvenation combined with tranexamic acid and hydroquinone cream has a significant curative effect on patients with complex facial pigmentation, which can significantly improve skin elasticity, increase skin water content, and reduce the degree of skin lesions.

The incidence and mortality of colon cancer are increasing, and effective biomarkers for its diagnosis are limited. 5-methylcytosine (5mC), a vital DNA methylation marker, plays important roles in gene expression, genomic imprinting, and transposon inhibition. This study aimed to identify the predictors of colon cancer prognosis and lay the foundation for research on therapeutic targets by detecting the levels of 5mC, 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), 5-formyl cytosine (5fC), and 5-carboxylcytosine (5caC) in colon cancer and adjacent non-tumor tissues. A tissue microarray including 100 colon cancer tissue samples and 60 adjacent non-tumor tissue samples was used. ⋯ However, the clinical parameters were not significantly associated with these methylation markers, except for 5hmC, which was associated with the age of cancer patients (P value = .043). Kaplan-Meier analysis disclosed that moderate positive group had a significantly shorter disease specific survival than strong positive group for patients with different levels of 5mC (65.2 vs 95.2 months, P = .014) and 5hmC (71.2 vs 97.5 months, P = .045). 5mC and its ramifications (5hmC, 5fC, and 5caC) can serve as biomarkers for colon cancer. 5mC and 5hmC are stable predictors and therapeutic targets in colon cancer. However, further understanding of its function will help to reveal the complex tumorigenic process and identify new therapeutic strategies.
