Lumbar spondylolysis is one of the most common causes of low back pain and primarily affects children and adolescents. Traditional posterior lumbar fixation and interbody fusion surgery has always been the most effective method to treat spondylolysis. However, traditional surgical management has limitations of large trauma, complex operation, high cost, postoperative biomechanical deterioration, and resulting complications. ⋯ A novel minimally invasive therapeutic approach is presented herein of an SEC injection guided by C-arm fluoroscopy to treat lumbar spondylolysis. We describe a novel technique applied in a patient with lumbar spondylolysis, who showed significantly improved low back pain symptoms and a computed tomography scan, including osseous fusion of the bilateral isthmus at L4 after SEC therapy. This is the first reported case description of using an SEC injection to treat lumbar spondylolysis with a successful clinical outcome.

The Injury Severity Score (ISS) is widely used to evaluate patients with multiple injuries. This study investigated the association between ISS and clinical outcomes of patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) in an aging Japanese population. This retrospective cohort study investigated patients admitted to a Japanese university hospital. ⋯ Moreover, ISS was significantly negatively correlated with EQ5d score at the last follow-up (P = .01, r = -0.28). The chi-squared test demonstrated that patients with an ISS of < 14 returned home (P = .03), while those with an ISS of < 19 returned to work (P = .02). ISS is associated with paralysis, activities of daily living, QOL, and lifestyle in patients with SCI and is an important initial injury assessment method.

Rectal dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDL) and DDL with osteosarcomatous differentiation both are extremely unwonted. In addition, there are no reports of simultaneous DDL with osteosarcoma differentiation with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) to date. Therefore, it is imperative to alert clinicians and pathologists to this extremely rare and instructive synchronous tumor. ⋯ DDL with osteosarcoma differentiation is infrequent, and its accurate diagnosis is based on morphology, immunohistochemistry and the necessary molecular tests. In rare cases, DDL occurs concurrently with other malignancies and and will be a challenge for pathologists and clinicians at this time. Accordingly, a comprehensive examination to identify possible synchronous tumors is very important in clinical practice.

Copper death genes may play an important role in the immune infiltration of diabetes.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a frequent microvascular abnormality associated with diabetes mellitus. The loss of retinal immunity is an important underlying mechanism of the DR pathogenesis, including the change in retinal immunosuppressive characteristics and the blood-retinal barrier disturbances. Therefore, this investigation screens immune-associated biomarkers in the retina of DR patients. ⋯ This investigation identified 15 genes (TYROBP, FCGR3A, CD163, FCGR2A, PTPRC, TLR2, CD14, VSIG4, HCK, CSF1R, LILRB2, ITGAM, CTSS, CD86, and LY86) as hub DR genes, which may serve as a new potential point for the diagnosis and treatment of DR. CSF1R/p-ERK1/2 signaling may promotes the development of retinal neovascularization.
