Lipohypertrophy (LH) is a major localized complication of insulin therapy. We aimed to investigate the association between insulin-induced LH and carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). A total of 75 patients with DM treated with insulin were included in this study. ⋯ The presence of LH (CI: 1.379-30.000; OR = 6.432; P < .05), age (CI: 1.036-1.149; OR = 1091; P < .05), BMI (CI: 1.003-1.262; OR = 1.125; P < .05) and duration of DM (CI: 1.001-1.300; OR = 1.141; P < .05) were independent risk factors for high-CIMT in patients with DM. The most interesting result of this study was that the presence of LH was an independent risk factor for increased CIMT. According to this result, we think that LH may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease as well as being a complication that disrupts the blood glucose regulation of patients with DM and increases the cost of treatment.

The PBL teaching method in neurology education in the traditional Chinese medicine undergraduate students: An observational study.
The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of the problem-based learning (PBL) method on Neurology education for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) undergraduate students. This observational study was conducted during the 2020/02 and 2020/04 intakes of the third year TCM undergraduate students at School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Xiamen University Malaysia. A total of 86 students were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to either conventional learning groups or PBL groups. ⋯ Additionally, the PBL group had significantly higher scores on the dundee ready educational environment measure compared to students in the conventional group (P < .05). The implementation of the PBL teaching method in Neurology education for TCM undergraduate students proved to be an engaging and effective learning approach. It significantly improved students learning performance and their ability to analyze and solve problems related to neurology diseases and their management knowledge.

This study aims to demonstrate current research priorities and predict future trends of sports medicine of athletes by scientometric analysis. We collected nearly 20 years (2003 to 2023) of publications related to Sports medicine of athletes in the Web of Science database, Citespace was applied to evaluate the knowledge mapping. There are 4820 manuscripts about post-cesarean section in total, and faster growth after 2018. ⋯ Through scientometric analysis of the past 20 years, we know the blood, biomedical imaging informatics, and activity monitor is the focus of future research. The USA, Australia, and England have become the main research forces in this field with high publication rates and centrality. This is important for accurately and quickly locating trends in this field.

The aim of this study was to compare bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and investigate the accuracy of BIA in assessing appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM) and diagnosing sarcopenia. A total of 90 elderly patients hospitalized in the Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University from 2019 to 2020 were collected, including 42 males and 48 females. ⋯ ASM measured by BIA was higher than ASM measured by DXA, and there was statistical significance for all differences (P < .001); Pearson correlation analysis showed that ASM measured by BIA and DXA was positively correlated in both male (R = 0.94) and female (R = 0.97) patients (P < .001); Bland-Altman analysis showed that there was a high consistency between ASM detected by BIA and DXA; The detection rate of low muscle mass and sarcopenia by BIA and DXA was not statistically significant (P > .05). BIA (InBody720) has high accuracy in assessing ASM and diagnosing sarcopenia in hospitalized Chinese older adults, and has the advantages of convenient use, no radiation, and easy promotion, so it can be used as an early screening tool in primary hospitals lacking DXA.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a central nervous system disease caused by the human polyomavirus 2 that usually occurs in a setting of immunodeficiency. PML without overt immunosuppression is considered a rare occurrence but has been described in multiple previous case reports and series. Its prevalence, overall frequency, and prognosis are largely unknown. ⋯ Both cases were fatal within 6 (case 1) and 2 (case 2) months. The results suggest that PML without overt immunosuppression may be more common than previously described. Therefore, PML should be considered even in the absence of overt immunosuppression if clinical and radiographic findings are suggestive of the diagnosis.
