We aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP) and lumbar bone mineral density (BMD) in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Fasting blood samples were obtained from 46 PD patients. BMD was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry of the lumbar vertebrae (L1-L4). ⋯ The lumbar T-score value decreases by 0.800 units when log-NT-pro-BNP increases by 1 unit and increases by 0.323 units when BMI increases by 1 unit. The established model is statistically significant (F = 6.190; P < .001). Our study in PD patients showed that serum NT-pro-BNP level was negatively correlated and BMI was positively correlated with lumbar BMD.

Attitudes toward herbal medicine for COVID-19 in healthcare workers: A cross-sectional observational study.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has adversely affected working life all over the world, and the employees with the highest risk of transmission have been those in the health sector. Since there are currently no effective treatments for COVID-19, there have been numerous attempts to find alternative treatments for both the spread of the infection and its treatment. These efforts have included the use of herbal extracts to boost immunity and reduce the likelihood of contracting the infection. ⋯ The herb most frequently utilized was ginger (54%). Healthcare workers use HM at rates that are the same as those of the general population. Both its use during infections and the idea that it is effective are more common among healthcare professionals than in the general population.

This study evaluated the effects of comprehensive functional nursing on functional recovery and quality of life in patients with spinal cord injuries (SCIs). A total of 214 patients with SCIs treated in our hospital from October 2019 to October 2021 were included in the retrospective analysis and divided into a general care group (n = 107) and a comprehensive care group (n = 107), based on the care that they received. Patients in the general care group received general functional nursing, whereas those in the comprehensive care group received a comprehensive functional nursing intervention. ⋯ After nursing, the RMI, BI, BBS score, FEV1, FEV1/FVC, MVV, maximum micturition volume, bladder volume, and SF-36 scores of the comprehensive care group were significantly higher than those of the general care group, and the LVEDD, LVESD, micturition time, residual urine volume, and LUTS, HAMA, and BDI scores of the comprehensive care group were significantly lower than those of the general care group. In patients with SCIs, comprehensive functional nursing can promote the recovery of neurocognition, bladder function, and cardiorespiratory function, and improve their quality of life. Comprehensive functional nursing is worthy of clinical application.

miR-26b-5p actively participates in the osteogenic differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). The database showed that fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-21 is a potential binding site of miR-26b-5p. This study aimed to investigate the molecular osteogenic mechanisms of miR-26b-5p targeting FGF21. ⋯ miR-26b-5p can regulate the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs and participate in PMOP pathogenesis via suppressing FGF21.

Although it is challenging to correct severe adult idiopathic scoliosis (ADIS) deformities, optimal results can be achieved by multiple asymmetric Ponte osteotomies with lower surgical risks. Skipping the apical instrumentation and using multiple rods and connectors may further facilitate the procedure. We named this method as "modular correction technique" (MCT). ⋯ MCT can be performed with low risk of complications and relatively low operation time and blood loss. It facilitates rod insertion and correction maneuvers. Radiologic, especially coronal balance, and functional outcomes can be improved with minimal morbidity while deterioration of pulmonary function is prevented. This technique is useful in severe but relatively flexible ADIS deformities.
