Propofol is the most commonly used intravenous anesthetic medication and is most commonly associated with post-operative pain. Several drugs are investigated to reduce post-operative pain caused by propofol injection. Ondansetron is a potent anti-emetic drug showing promising results as an analgesic. This meta-analysis aims to compare the efficacy of ondansetron to placebo and lidocaine in reducing post-operative pain caused by propofol injection. ⋯ Ondansetron is effective in reducing post-operative propofol-induced pain. However, lidocaine is more effective than it.

The relationship between bi-spectral index and VOTE score in evaluation of drug-induced sleep endoscopy: A systematic meta-analysis.
The aim of this study was to investigate both the presence and severity of collapse in anatomical regions defined by the VOTE score (velum, orofarinx, tongue, and epiglottis), during drug induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) in patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, based on the bi-spectral index (BIS) sedation level. ⋯ It was found that BIS sedation levels during DISE application in obstructive sleep apnea patients were associated with obstruction of the anatomical regions of the upper airway. The strongest association was found at the epiglottis level, followed by the velum, oropharynx, and tongue, respectively. It is helpful to monitor the sedation level with BIS in order to better define the collapsed areas during DISE application. However, more studies are needed to better understand the relationship between BIS sedation values and sleep stages.

The analgesic efficacy of erector spinae plane block (ESPB) versus intercostal nerve block (ICNB) for thoracoscopic surgery remains controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the impact of ESPB versus ICNB on thoracoscopic surgery. ⋯ ESPB may be comparable with ICNB for the postoperative pain control of thoracoscopic surgery.

To evaluate through meta-analysis whether long-term use of proton pump inhibitor (PPI) increases the risk of precancerous lesions in the stomach. ⋯ During long-term follow-up, patients using PPI exhibited a significantly higher incidence of overall abnormal lesions compared to the control group, particularly with a higher risk observed for intestinal metaplasia. However, there were no statistically significant differences between the 2 groups in terms of short-term follow-up and other types of lesions. It is important to exercise caution when interpreting these findings due to the limited number of nominated investigations included in the meta-analysis.

Fertility concerns are a pervasive issue but very subtle in patients with cancer. Though various studies have focused on fertility concerns, limited research endeavor has been dedicated to bibliometric analysis. Given this, to visually analyze the hot frontier trends of research related to fertility concerns of patients with cancer using CiteSpace and provide new insights for future research in this field using the bibliometric method. ⋯ The search resulted in 201 valid articles, and the annual publication volume of literature related to fertility concerns in patients with cancer was generally on the rise; the country with the most publications was the United States, which also had the highest influence; the main research institution was Sloan Kettleson Cancer Research Center; the core research scholar was Jessica R. Gorman; the research hotspots mainly centered on quality of survival, women, survivorship, preservation, breast cancer, adolescence, and infertility. The results of this bibliometric study provide the current status and trends in the fertility concerns of patients with cancer and may help researchers identify the hotspots and frontier trends in this field.
