The prognostic value of exercise capacity has been demonstrated in subjects with established cardiovascular diseases. We aim to evaluate the independence of exercise capacity measured by treadmill exercise test (TET) in predicting long-term outcomes among various comorbidities. This study was conducted from January 2003 to December 2012 in a tertiary medical center in Taiwan. ⋯ The fitness was more predictive of long-term outcomes in young or those with ischemic changes during TET (P for interaction: 0.035 and 0.018, respectively). The benefit of fitness was nonlinearly associated with long-term survival. The prognostic impacts of exercise capacity were universally observed in subjects with or without various comorbidities.

Antibody response in patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis post-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 vaccination: A prospective observational study.
Vaccination is important for patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD) to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection since they are more vulnerable. However, they exhibit a weak response to vaccines, underscoring the importance of understanding whether antibodies are sufficiently produced and their durability post-COVID-19 vaccination. This prospective observational study assessed the antibody response of Korean patients undergoing HD for 1 year. ⋯ In the patient group, 19 patients received a third dose (BNT162b2 or mRNA-1273); however, it did not increase the antibody levels (P = 1.000). Furthermore, the antibodies produced by the vaccination did not wane until 1 year. Two doses of vaccination resulted in a significant antibody response in patients undergoing HD, and antibody levels did not wane until 1 year.

Parkinson disease (PD) is an age-dependent neurodegenerative disease with very high prevalence by age 80 years. Necroptosis is a newly identified form of programmed cell death implicated in neurodegenerative diseases, but has not yet been conclusively associated with PD. This study examined the contributions of necroptosis to PD using bioinformatics analysis. ⋯ Analysis of DEGs also revealed significant increases in CD8 + T cell and Tex cell infiltration and significant decreases in B cell and T gamma delta cell infiltration within the PD brain. Necroptosis pathways are active in PD and associated with immune cell infiltration. The factors controlling necroptotic signaling and immune infiltration identified in this study may be valuable diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for PD.

The basement membrane is an essential defense against cancer progression and is intimately linked to the tumor immune microenvironment. However, there is limited research comprehensively discussing the potential application of basement membrane-related genes (BMRGs) in the prognosis evaluation and immunotherapy of gastric cancer (GC). The RNA-seq data and clinical information of GC patients were collected from the TCGA and GEO database. ⋯ Furthermore, the validation of the cohort that received immune therapy revealed that patients in the high-risk group who underwent immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment exhibited better response rates. Pan-cancer analysis also shows that risk scores are strongly associated with immune and carcinogenic pathways. The 4-BMRGs signature has demonstrated accuracy and reliability in predicting the GC patient's prognosis and could assist in the formulation of clinical strategies.

MicroRNA-142-3p (miR-142-3p) has been reported to be implicated in colon cancer; however, the possible regulatory mechanisms and molecular subtypes regulated by miR-142-3p have not been fully elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the biological functions and regulatory mechanism of miR-142-3p in colon cancer. The expression level of miR-142-3p in colon cancer was analyzed based on the mRNA and miRNA expression datasets of colon cancer retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas. ⋯ TP53INP2 expression in cluster 2 was higher than that in cluster 1. MiR-142-3p may promote colon cancer progression via autophagy- and metabolism-related pathways. MiR-142-3p may be served as a candidate target for the treatment of colon cancer.
