Bone resorption of vertebral bodies at the operative segment after prevail cervical interbody fusion: A case report.
We report an interesting case of bone resorption of vertebral bodies at the operative segment after Peek Prevail cervical interbody fusion. Instability of cervical vertebrae is likely to occur due to increased stress in Peek Prevail implant body for bone resorption. The finite element analysis was used to clarify the biomechanical effects of bone resorption and stress distribution in Peek Prevail implant body. ⋯ Bone resorption of vertebral bodies in the operative segment may be a potential complication after Peek Prevail cervical interbody fusion. Great attention must be paid when bone resorption was occurred in order to avoid screw loosening before vertebral fusion.

The psychological condition of community-dwelling older adults is a global concern under coronavirus disease 2019. Loneliness is the key risk factor for depression among community-dwelling older adults. This study aims to explore the role of social support as a mediating factor in the relationship between depression and loneliness among community-dwelling older adults. ⋯ In conclusion, the findings suggest that social support plays a mediating role between depression and loneliness in older adults. This implies that interventions aimed at reducing loneliness and enhancing social support have the potential to alleviate depressive symptoms among this population. By addressing these factors, healthcare professionals and caregivers can promote the mental well-being of older adults and contribute to improved overall quality of life.

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of radiological parameters used in the follow-up of patients who underwent salter innominate osteotomy (SIO) for the treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip. ⋯ In our study, along with acetabular index, the c/b ratio, teardrop width, TDD, and acetabular teardrop angle significantly changed after SIO and could be used as a guide for patient follow-up.

We proceeded with this study to investigate the relationship between hypothyroidism and lipid profile disturbance. A cross-sectional study at Al- Mowasat University Hospital in Damascus was conducted from March 2021 to March 2022, and included 324 adults. For each participant with abnormal thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (FT4) was requested. ⋯ Our findings suggest a higher level of lipids (LDL, TG, and Chol) among SCH and overt hypothyroidism compared to general population. A weak correlations of lipid parameters with TSH and FT4 were detected. It is not well evident whether a restoration of euthyroidism might influence the morbidity and mortality, especially cardiovascular comorbidities, in this population, which mandates future studies.

Primary brainstem hemorrhage (PBH) is one of the most fatal intracranial hemorrhages, evaluating the prognosis in the early stage is vital for appropriate therapeutic planning. Our study aimed to identify risk factors for 30-day mortality and 90-day functional recovery of PBH. Data from 63 patients with PBH admitted to Beijing Chaoyang Hospital between 2016 and 2022 were retrieved for this study. ⋯ Independent risk factors of 30-day mortality and 90-day functional recovery were identified by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. 31 patients (49.2%) died within 30 days and 22 patients (34.9%) achieved better functional recovery. By multivariate analysis, Glasgow coma scale <9 on admission and tachycardia were significantly associated with 30-day mortality, while the hematoma volume >5 mL was an independent risk factor for 90-day functional recovery. Initial level of consciousness, tachycardia, massive hematoma were risk factors for prognosis, which must be seriously evaluated for therapeutic planning.
